I love how easy they are to add color, pattern, and interest to a basic outfit. So when I decided to make a bunch of bandannas to spruce up my summer wardrobe, I knew I had to do it with tie dye!To make these dyed headbands, we used our favorite tie dye from Tulip and tried 5 different methods to create a handful of one-of-a-kind bandanas. Tie a dye towel Method 1: Dyed Pastel

For this method, instead of filling the bottles with the recommended amount of water, we kept adding more water until the color drifted off a bit and lightened. You can test the color before adding it to your bandana to make sure it’s the color you want by blotting it on an old, white paper towel or dishcloth. Once the color is as bright as you want, screw it up with whatever technique you want, secure with a rubber band, and apply the tie dye according to the package instructions.It’s gorgeous, isn’t it? I love the subtle colors that make this dyed hair tie perfect for everyday wear as it’s not too garish.

This method is fun and really lets you get creative! Simply refill the bottles according to the package instructions, then remove the cap and dip the paintbrush in the color of your choice. Then make small brush strokes with the color of your choice, repeating with all the colors until you have filled the brush strokes with the bandana! This method will make you feel like a kid coloring in a coloring book and it feels GOOD. Simply fill the bottles with water according to the package instructions, remove the cap, and use a paintbrush to apply the dye right inside the bandana’s design. The colors are so vibrant against the white bandana background and make the design stand out to you!I love the vibrancy of the tie dye. You would never know that this one is DIY because of the way it soaks into the fabric as if it were part of it!

Tie a scarf with dye Method 4: Inspired by Shibori

For this method, you’ll be using your awesome Shibori set! You can fold and tie it any way you want, and there are tons of tips on Pinterest for different ways you can fold to create amazing designs. I folded my bandana like an accordion then into a triangle, then tied it with two pieces of cardboard and lots of elastic from the kit. Next, I soaked it with Shibori dye and let it set according to the package instructions. I’m obsessed with the textures and richness of the blu music in this set!

For this method, you will do everything according to your package instructions, but with a slight twist at the end. Just mix the dye, twist and tie the towel with an elastic band, then, instead of wringing the dye onto the towel, pour it into a bowl and dip! Dipping gives you more control over where you want the dye to penetrate the dye. To create this two-tone bandana, I dipped one side in green dye and the other in gray.
