Cut antlers from the skull

When cutting deer antlers to attach velvet antlers, pay careful attention to the angle of the cut as this will affect how your antlers display on the wall. Remove the deer skin from the skull
If your deer are fresh, this is a pretty straightforward process. Tools required:
- Sharp knife
- Screwdriver
- Pliers (needle or regular)
If this is a dry set of deer antlers, you’ll need a little more patience. You will need to soak the gauze/skull plate in water for up to a few days. Do this somewhere where a little “stink” won’t be an issue (garage vs. kitchen!) Because when old dead skin is rehydrated there can certainly be some foul odors. . take it off the skull plate. Use a knife to make several incisions from the circumference of the skull disc to the base of each antler. Go ahead and join the cuts between the gauze if you want. We don’t care at all about damaging the skin and fur in this case, so just do what you have to do to remove the hidden skin. Remove the back skin from the skull. Using a screwdriver to pry it off the ledge usually makes things much easier. Once you get some skin off the skull, the pliers will help you to hold and pull/pull it out of the skull. You can usually put quite a bit of pressure on the hidden skin during this step. It will come off quite easily if the skin is soft enough
Clean the skull disc
Read more: How to play 13 dead end drive Okay, now that the deer skin has come off the skull plate, we want to clean the skull so that there are no insects or odors that will wreak havoc in the future. Use a knife to cut and remove as much flesh and tissue as possible from the skull cap. Then, at a minimum, you should apply borax to the skull plate and let it dry. Ideally, however, you should boil the skull plate in water (taxonomist’s tip: use some sweet salt in the water!) for about 30-60 minutes, then scrape off all the tissue. Pay attention when boiling, do not let the gauze soak in the water too much. This can change colors and create a need to restore their colors. Attach deer antlers to plaque
Each deer antlers attachment kit will vary slightly on how the antlers are actually attached to the plaque. Basically, you will need to drill a few holes in the skull disc. The hole size should match the size of the screw provided in the kit. Then you screw the gauze down on the plaque. You can slice skull discs to modify the angle they’re on the array, so experiment until you get it right.

The final important step in attaching deer antlers is to attach a coating to the skull disc. This hides the “ugly” part and really adorns the board for a great, finished look. Cover plates come in a wide variety of shapes and finishes, but most are some sort of oval. Finishes range from red velvet or felt to tanned deerskin. Sometimes, gold braid is used to decorate (and cover) the transition between the ledge and the cover. Get creative and make it your own!
