Since we are homeschooling on a very tight budget, I try to find fun and budget-friendly things all year round for my kids. A few years ago, our local park held Day Camps. Each week is a different theme including Art and Music.I signed both Eldest and Princess in a split second. Every morning they went camping for 3 hours and had a great time. They make some very unique items every day, and at the end of the week, they’ll display those items on Family Day. My kids enjoyed this camping week so much that they signed up again for next Summer so we now have 4 very unique but easy-to-empty items. And of course if you have a drum you’ll need a drumstick!
Read more: how to keep wax worms alive | The drums were manufactured ahead of time by the Parks Department but can be very easily made at home using a wooden picture frame, embroidery hoop, or 1×1 scrap wood and clear packing tape. You take the tape wrapped around the frame slightly overlapping each pass. You can start from top to bottom or left to right, but you’ll need to wrap the tape in both directions to create a solid drum. Here are some close-up images of the empty frame:
For the drumsticks, we reuse some common items around our house. We used bamboo skewers or chopsticks from the local Chinese Restaurant from the handle of the drumstick. For the ends we use wood beads or small rubber balls or beads from car seat covers with broken beads. The idea is not to spend a lot of money but to have fun using things you have around your house!
