How To Make A Beer Bottle Cake
Today is the day that one of my favorite people in the whole world was born 32 years ago.And while I couldn’t spend the whole day celebrating with him, I was so lucky to have spent all of the last weekend making our birthdays right! In my post on Monday, I shared my birthday present to Jeremy: a birthday cake made from bottles and cans of craft beer. Today I’m going to show you exactly how I made it and how you can make it yourself for the beer lover in your life. for coming up with this idea. I bookmarked Cassie’s blog post as soon as I saw it six months ago knowing it would be the perfect birthday present for Jeremy. How to make a birthday cake with a beer bottle (or can)
The first thing you need to do is buy a cake board from your local craft store. I used two 14 inch cake boards and one 10 inch cake board. If you can buy them individually, go that route. Unfortunately I don’t have that option so now I have a whole collection of cake boards that will probably never be usable. with foil or festive wrapping paper.

Some stores only sell bottles, which can be very helpful if they have a good selection. If you have a shop in your area known for “good beer”, I’d go there. I bought a large amount of my beer from Beertopia in Omaha. They have a great selection, have quite a few beers that I know Jeremy will enjoy, and were very helpful in suggesting additional beers that weren’t on my list. I used 37 beers, with 23 being bottles and 14 being cans. This is the perfect amount to create a beautiful and firm cake.
Place most (or all) of your bottled beer on the first 14-inch cake board.
I filled the beer bottle with the entire edge of the board, and then filled the rest of the bottles with the most of the middle of the board. You want to make sure there are enough bottles in the middle to hold the weight of the top two tiers. I ended up with 23 beers in the bottom layer.
Once your first layer is complete, tie a festive ribbon around the bottles into a bow.
Now, start the second layer by placing another 14-inch pie plate on top of the beer bottle top.
Coat a second layer of beer on top of the cake. You can use beer bottles or cans. Whichever you choose, make sure they’re the same height. I stuck with cans because some of Jeremy’s favorite beers come in cans. Plus, I think the cans will be a bit sturdier than the second layer of bottles. The second layer consists of 10 cans.

The third tier is the easiest of them all. I put a 10-inch cake board on top of the can.
Then I put the last four cans of beer on top. The third tier is perfect for any bottles or cans that are uncomfortably tall/different from the rest of the beer as you won’t be stacking anything on top of them.
I wanted to make the top floor more festive, so I stuck a Happy Birthday banner on the third cake board. You can use any festive decorations you like. Pick and glitter garland would be great too!
When I bought the Happy Birthday banner, I also found these shiny colored cupcakes that I scattered around the cake to make it a little extra special.
This is the finished product! Jeremy absolutely loves it and I really enjoyed putting them together. Choose from a variety of beers that I know he will enjoy and the whole process of creating the cake is super easy. It only took me about 20 minutes in total.
