How To Cover A 3 Ring Binder With Fabric

When I married my husband in 1995, I received a beautiful, personalized gift from my dad’s wife. She customized a fabric wedding album, which happened to be a popular DIY project at the time. Although I believe that album is the best thing since Slicing Bread and I want to learn how to make those albums myself, I have never asked my stepmother to show me how she created the works. That beautiful product. And although 10, 15 years later, I still wish I knew the process of making those cloth-bound albums, but I never took the time to find out how. giant list makers, scribes, prayer writers, and others. I’ve invested a pretty penny in a spiral notebook, diary, and 3-round cover. Nothing I’ve bought really feels “right” for me. I used the cutest Lisa Frank spiral for a month, realized it didn’t work for me, and I was going out to buy something else. I’ve bought so many different items to hold my lists and notes, I really should be buying stocks in companies like 5-Star. where I can create my own war room. I didn’t have extra room and didn’t have enough room for our clothes, so the use of a cupboard was unquestionable. I wanted to create a space where I could keep my prayers, sermon notes, and scriptures that I wanted to memorize. That’s when I heard the phrase “the binder of war”. I decided to find a way to cover a 3-ring binder with fabric and make it my own personal book, keeping everything related to my walk with God.Have you ever wondered how to create a canvas cover? What you need

  • your favorite fabric
  • 3-ring cover or photo album (or similar)
  • sprays and other glues (I used quick-drying glue)
  • scissors
  • ice cream sticks or other similar items
  • clothespin (optional)

    • Place your cardboard/album open and flat on top of the material you will be using for the cover.Have you ever wondered how to create a canvas cover? Maybe even customize it to match your personality? # outerwear # cloak # coat # coat # coat # dwarf # cloak # coat
    • When you cut the excess fabric, leave about an inch and a half of fabric around the edges of the adhesive.

    • Spray the adhesive onto the outer cover and carefully position the adhesive onto your material. Make sure your fabric is laid flat and the back of the fabric is facing up, like in the photo on the right.
    • At this point, quickly flip over the adhesive so you can smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles between the adhesive and the fabric.
      • TIP: I used a light adhesive, so I can lift it up, smooth out any of the aforementioned issues, and reapply if needed. I don’t believe I can do this with a strong adhesive.
    • Once you’re happy with the look of the outer cover, flip the adhesive over and start pulling each corner of my material towards the center and attaching it with some adhesive. If it doesn’t stick to the adhesive within a minute or two, I use clothespins to hold the material down until it dries a bit.

    • The next step can be seen in the collage below and involves wrapping each side of the fabric around the edges of your adhesive and attaching them with glue.
      • NOTE: When wrapping the fabric around the edge, do not pull too tight. You don’t want the fabric to be so tight that it affects your ability to seal the adhesive once everything dries.

One is made with a thick cardboard and the other is made of fabric (and cardboard). The measurement and cutting for this step should be done more precisely, since this part will not have anything to hide its defects.

    • FOR PAPER

Each inner cover should still have some fabric around the front, back, and sometimes the backbone (as you can see I’m using one of those triple-like albums). Measure each area you want to cover, leaving some visible fabric. Cut the cardboard to the desired size and carefully glue each piece to the appropriate side. Make sure the paper is large enough to cover the cut edges of the fabric that has been glued to the adhesive. BOOM! You just made the cover for your binder.

    • FOR FABRIC

There are a few more steps to covering the fabric inside, but I found a pattern that complements the material and I love it. Even though we’re covering the inside fabric, you’ll still need to measure and cut the piece of cardboard so it fits snugly on the front and inside of the back (and possibly the spine). Remember to leave some of the wrap visible. Now STOP! DO NOT cut fabric to your measurements or rough. If you do, the rough (and possibly curved like your beak) edges will be easily visible when you open your war document case. What we do here is wrap the fabric OVER the cardboard, to cover the imperfections of the cut fabric. So, just like we did with the outer cover, spray a little adhesive on your cardboard and carefully smooth out any smudges. Again, gently wrap all four edges of the fabric around the card and attach with glue. It’s quite a lot! Take your fabric wrap, your paper side down and and carefully glue each piece to the appropriate side. Ta-Da!
