How To Change Blades On Cub Cadet Zero Turn

Over time, the blades on your Cub Cadet zero turn can wear out or become bent, reducing the efficiency of your lawn mower. Sharpen or replace the blades on your lawn mower if you notice signs of wear, but make it a habit to check your blades at least twice a year, at the beginning and middle of the mowing season. Turn off the engine and let it cool, remove the ignition, disconnect the spark plugs’ ignition wire to prevent accidental starting, and engage the parking brake. Make sure that the PTO lever is removed. Set the lawn mower floor height lever to the lowest position. Remove both belt covers from deck. Use a socket or a 3/8-inch wrench to remove the belt covers. Use a 9/16 inch socket or wrench to pull the worker pulley arm back to release belt tension. Remove the belt from the working machine pulley and the PTO clutch. Use a 9/16 inch socket and wrench to loosen the work machine pulley bolts. Remove the cotter pins and deck pins that are securing the deck, then slide the deck out of your mower.Replace the bladesFlip the cutter face over to access the cutter blades. Remove the blades. Always wear gloves when working with blades. Wedge your wood block between the lawn mower deck and the blade itself, so you can prevent the blades from spinning. Use a 15/16 inch socket or wrench to loosen the blade nuts. Replace the blades of the cutter. Carefully replace the blades and tighten the nuts. Install the blades with the word “bottom” or part number facing the ground.Reinstall lawn mower deckFlip the deck over and carefully slide it back into place underneath your lawn mower. Reattach the deck and slide the deck pins back into place. Then reconnect the cotter pins. Reinsert the belt and route the belt around the PTO clutch. Thread the belt through the idling pulleys. Use a 9/16 inch socket and wrench to tighten the worker pulley bolts. Route the belt around the spindle pulleys. Use a 9/16 inch socket or wrench to release tension and route the belt. Reinstall the belt covers. Reinstall access panel and bolts. Finally, reconnect the spark plug wires.
