Making hot air balloons out of paper lanterns is very easy to do! Paper light balloons make a beautiful decoration for a nursery or children’s room, and would be great for a birthday party!
Hot air balloon paper lantern supplies
- Paper lanterns (any size and color will work)
- Hand painted
- Paint brush
- Small basket (I used Darice’s 2-inch mini basket)
- Scissors
- String (I used kite string)
- Hot glue
- Toothpicks or wooden skewers
Draw lanterns
Choose the paint color you want to go with each paper lantern. I used many paint colors with many colors of the lantern so that I have many beautiful colors. You can choose to use all of the softer, darker, metallic, or blend colors of these. Be creative!
Attach the baskets
If your small basket has a handle (like mine did), use scissors to cut it. Cut four pieces of string for each lantern. My lantern is 8 inches, and I cut each piece of wire 6 inches long. the size of your paper lantern, your cord may need to be cut shorter or longer.

How to Preserve Paper Lantern Balloons
One of my favorite things about these balloons is that they don’t take up much space to store, just pull the metal inside out and close the lanterns as they came out. space, great if you have boxes and containers for crafts and party decorations. ???? I hope you love these paper lantern balloons as much as I do!
