who the son sets free is free indeed meaning

In John 8:36, Jesus made a great claim of victory. He says, “So if the Son sets you free, you will truly be free.” These are powerful words of encouragement and right away, I want to give you a big congrats on your freedom. However, have you ever taken the time to consider what you are liberated from? If you look at the Greek language, you will discover that the word freedom means release or release from liability. That means this sentence can read who is the released or exonerated son who will actually be released and exonerated from liability. Because of this definition, when you consider this sentence in its full context, there are two conclusions I would like you to consider. First, there are things that Jesus Christ has delivered you from. Second, there are things that Jesus Christ has set you free.

Christ, the Son, Freed You From What?

The Binding of Sin – (Your Confinement) For something or someone to be liberated, it must first be bound or imprisoned. The very definition of a captive is a captive. That’s exactly what we were. You and I are prisoners held under the bondage of sin. We are imprisoned by the impulse of sin. We have been slaves to our sinful instincts. We have no power to overcome the influence of sin. Sin is our ruler and it imprisons us. This does not mean that you have lived a wild lifestyle, although it may be, it simply means that the main power in your life is your sinful nature. It was under control. In Romans 6, Paul made sin your master, however, when you were born again, a wonderful thing happened – you have a new master. God has given you a new nature and, more importantly, filled you with the Holy Spirit so that you are no longer under the control of your sinful nature – you are free. Paul sums it up beautifully in 2 Corinthians 3:17: “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” Because the Holy Spirit lives in you, you are free. The Punishment of Sin – (Your Eternity) – Romans 6:23 says “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ our Lord.” Let’s be very frank here, apart from Jesus Christ, we all have a permanent death sentence. That’s right, you and I were on death row. You may not understand it and may not understand its gravity but that’s our excuse. Unfortunately, many people still don’t understand it today. Because of our sins, you and I are on a path to eternal separation from God’s very presence. This is a permanent punishment or liability for our sins. Thankfully the story doesn’t end there. Paul speaks here of God’s gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus. When Jesus set you free, He took away your death sentence. The punishment you deserved has been removed and you now have eternal life. He has truly changed your destination forever.Read more: Bill Weasley | Top Q & AToday you can rejoice because if you have Jesus Christ you have eternal life. You no longer have to pay the penalty for your sins, and you will never be separated from the love of God in Christ Jesus.Sin and the Shame of Sin – (Your Vitality) – Have you ever experienced guilt? Have you ever felt ashamed of things you did in the past? Have you ever repented but felt you needed to repent again because you felt so bad and wanted to be sure that God “has really forgiven you?” We’ve all done things we’re ashamed of. Things we wish we could take back and never do again. We all have the ability to relive our bad moments and ask why we did it? I know I’ve done that countless times. However, when you do this, all you are doing is creating guilt and shame. This can haunt you and it can paralyze you, taking away your life force and growth that is your vitality. This is one of our enemies Satan’s greatest weapons: encouraging you to look back on embarrassing moments in your past. In doing so, you may be overwhelmed with guilt, shame, and condemnation. This will eventually deprive you of your joy, rob you of your peace, and destroy your vitality. Today, I have good news for you – you are free. When you first sincerely repented, God forgave you. He has removed that sin from you as far east as the west that he no longer remembers. He will never bring it up again and neither will you. However, forgiveness is not just about dealing with your guilt, but about your shame as well. Christ not only forgives past sins. He also frees you from the shame and guilt of your past. He takes away what has limited your ability to live and thrive, which is your guilt and shame. Sin, shame, guilt are all resolved when Jesus sets you free. You don’t have to carry that burden of guilt and shame anymore. You are forgiven and truly free. When you understand what Christ has set you free, it sets the stage for you to live in what Christ has set you free.

With what has Christ set you free?

Freedom to live – (Your ability) One of the reasons it’s so important to understand that you’re free from bondage, punishment, and guilt is because it increases your energy. Jesus wants to increase your ability to love, to be happy, to experience peace, and to enjoy life. This cannot happen if you are not free. You cannot have a vibrant, lively, loving relationship with God or with anyone else for that matter, if you are holding on to guilt and shame about your past. Jesus said in John 10:10 “… I have come that they may have life and have it fully.” If you remember in the garden when Adam and Eve sinned, they hid from God and the possibility of a relationship with God. was hindered. When Jesus comes and frees you, you don’t have to hide anymore. You can now enjoy a healthy relationship with Heavenly Father, and he truly encourages it. James 4:8 says “Draw close to God and He will draw near to you.” This is the essence of what Christ has set you free. God wants a close, intimate relationship with you, and the only way that will happen is for Jesus to set you free. This allows you to build that relationship without fear or anxiety. You can confidently enter God’s presence because you know He wants you there and all obstacles have been removed. This is truly free life.Freedom of Service – (Your Activity) – Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s work, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” One of the other reasons Jesus Christ has set you free is because He has work for you to do. He has a plan for your life. However, it will be difficult to achieve this plan if you are running around with a guilty conscience. When you do this, you are always trying to prove yourself or win the approval of the person you are serving. Let me offload you today. You are saved by grace. You live by grace. God will fulfill His plan in your life by grace. Christ frees you so that your activity does not go beyond consciously trying to win God’s approval. Your approval does not come because of what you do, but because of what Christ has done. When you understand this, you are free to fulfill God’s plan for your life with no agenda, no ulterior motives, but from a motivated heart. by love for Him.

Epilogue

In the dictionary, freedom is defined as the power or right to act, speak or think without hindrance or restriction. It also describes it as liberation from slavery or from the power of others. That definition perfectly encapsulates all that Christ has done for us. There’s only one thing left for you to do. Live freely. This is what Paul said in Galatians 5:1: “It is for our freedom that Christ has set us free. So stand your ground and don’t let yourself be burdened again by slavery. “Enjoy your freedom today and live the life Christ has set you free to live.
