Carved from the world’s largest ruby and weighing 30,090 carats, this piece exudes the unconventional and eccentric perspective of Mark Mothersbaugh’s artwork. Currently viewed on the Gray Art Gallery in Mark Mothersbaugh: Myopia, this sculpture is one of many, many hundreds of works of art in a variety of mediums that bandleader DEVO has worked on over the course of his career. creative process spanning nearly 50 years Read more: World’s largest ruby ice cream Read more: Ice cream quote for instagram Following with Mothersbaugh he stumbled upon a giant ruby while hanging out with a a good friend of the gemologist, who “has this story about a gem mine where someone was in a hurry to get rid of a bunch of stuff, and by chance he came to the right place at the right time and he bought at ridiculously low prices”. Part 2 covered how these types of people who would normally buy huge gems haphazardly often get their money through reasonably cruel means — they’re members of drug cartels, Russian oil executives, bandits. Mothersbaugh determined that he preferred carving the ruby. In particular, he wanted to carve the ruby into a lump of grass… “So whoever owns the largest ruby in the world, [has] buy grass to get it. ” To disguise the lawn as an ice cream scoop, Mothersbaugh positioned the ruby into an incredibly sleek, bronze cone. Only the title alludes to the less salacious subject Mothersbaugh has taken on. chosen to describe (“kus-TURD”). The kusturd sits at the end of the setting at a descending stage that, in its personal idea, is notably different from the set of opposing constructions. It is one of only a few sculptures and a carved jewel in the exhibit, though the work may seem out of place or troublesome when combined with any of Motherbaugh’s other works. , but it fits reasonably well with his earlier works.Kusturd, like so much of Motherbaugh’s artwork, is anti-authoritarian and anti-establishment: it calls into question the serious yourself for great artwork and great jewelry, while making anyone rich enough or snobby enough to buy the biggest ruby The world becomes interesting.
