Take control of Windows at the Command Line
Being a system administrator myself, I really have a huge love for the command line. For anyone who has used a system that supports UNIX or Linux, the command line is an essential path for the operating system to reach its full potential. Windows also has a command line interface that gets the job done well enough, but sometimes you want a little more. For example, let’s say you want to modify the Windows user interface, manipulate connected hardware, and create cool Windows boot time profiles. There is a small tool that brings surprisingly interesting results to these tasks.

Installation is also quite simple. Just run the topqa.info file from the desktop as administrator, then click the “Copy to Windows Folder” button. Once done, you can call the NirCmd utility from anywhere while you are using the command line. However, I wanted to give a really neat example of something I did with NirCmd. I want my computer to say hello to me out loud every time I sign in to Windows. To do this, I just fire up Notepad and type the line nircmd says the text “Hello Matt! Welcome to Windows! ” In the file. Then I saved the file to my Documents folder as an NT CMD file (in the Save As… context menu, changed “Save As Type” to All Files (*. *) and saved the file as topqa.info).
