2. Clean the doors.

There are several ways to clean doors. JTS likes to blow all the dust with a hose connected to the air compressor. You can also clean them with a brush or damp rag. If they are really dirty or yellowed, you should use a good household cleaner. Wait until the door is dry before painting.

3. Secure hardware and knobs with tape.

Cover any areas you don’t want painted with painter’s tape. We took the doorknobs off instead of taking them off. The hinges have been painted before so there’s no need to re-glue them. The hinges can also be removed before painting the door.

4. Decide how to paint the door.

Do you want to use a paint brush on the door, spray paint or paint sprayer? It takes several cans of spray paint to paint the covered doors and the paint never comes on evenly. It often looks loose. Using paintbrushes is time consuming and takes a lot of patience to paint all those roofs. Often you can see the strokes as the paint dries.The fastest and easiest way to paint a covered closet door, covered shutter, or chair …… is to use a paint sprayer. The first time I painted these doors I had no idea what a paint sprayer was. I do now and my paint sprayer is a time saver/life saver. I don’t have to worry about brush marks either. A definite plus.

5. Get the paint sprayer ready.

You can tell that I’ve used the HomeRight Finish Max sprayer a lot just by looking at it. Finish Max has its own motor so you don’t need to use an air compressor. You simply plug it into an electrical outlet or, in this case, an extension cord.Pour paint into Finish Max container and dilute with water (if using latex paint). Paint needs to be relatively thin. Add water until you think the paint is too thin and it will be perfect!The nozzle on the front of the sprayer is for adjusting the paint flow.
