A dome usually appears on the top of a cake as it is baked. Baking a cake means removing that dome so that the top of the cake is flat. Stacking is if you divide the cake horizontally into layers to add filling and layer the layers evenly. , it is important to have cake layers on stage to ensure the deliciousness of the cake. A domed cake stacked with another domed cake can end up placing an undue strain on the center of the cake, causing it to crack in the center of the cake.

How to Level and Torte a Cake with a Leveler

There are many methods to perform the process and make the cake. After I first started making truffles, I used a leveler. However, in the end I discovered that they are often flimsy and incapable of giving me a pleasant layer of stage. So right now, I’m going to show you easy methods to stage / bake without using a leveler. Baking it first means you can be accurate if you measure the center of the cake if you start baking. I’m showing steps with torting, rather than leveling, since it’s a bit simpler to show. So to get started, place your cake on the turntable and prepare a large serrated knife. Place the blade where you want to reduce. In this case, it’s the center of the cake so it can be divided into two layers. Make air marks with the blade. I usually just keep an eye on it to make sure it’s centered, but you can also use a ruler.Use a serrated knife to cut the cake in halfThen, hold your knife in place and slowly flip the turntable so that your knife drop is as shallow as possible, marking where you will drop. Do it slowly, maintaining a tally of the knife’s position. Again, you can use a ruler if you like and work out your method on the cake by measuring and making marks.Dome cutout cakeAfter getting your lines on the outside of the cake, hold the knife steady and use a slow, careful sawing motion to divide the cake. You should definitely go slow and watch the position of the knife, making sure it is in line with the markings. Alternatively, you can proceed to flip the cake on the turntable, slowly moving the knife in as you narrow in the direction of the center of the cake. I simply discovered that I like the saw movement.serrated knife cut the cake into layersAs soon as the reduction is done, take away the top layer so you have 2 layers. I have a cake lifter that I want to use. It makes it easy to handle soft and thin layers of cake. In terms of cake flattening, however, I’ve often found that marking isn’t entirely necessary. That depends on how best to bake the cake, however, I tend to use the small outer edge of the cake as my “mark” when leveling. It’s even easier than the tactic above, if you’re comfortable handing it over. You can see in the photos below that these main edges (“my mark”) come out with the dome, however not by much. I want to make sure I depart as much as possible. However, in case your cake has important extra arches to remove, feel free to mark as demonstrated above.dome cutout collage

Now, in case you are really new to this and want to start with an upgrader, I would recommend this feature. They are small clamps that you can connect to your knife ends and essentially have it act as an equalizer. The element that I like about it is that your knife is what makes the reduction, so you already know it’s solid and doesn’t slip round. You’ll want to be sure to have a knife that lasts, though. In case you are going to apply it to truffles larger than 8 inches, I recommend the method I linked above (and shown in the images below). It’s pretty long, however you want that size. While I still favor tactics and don’t use levelers, it’s the best option I’ve discovered in case you want leveler comfort in the beginning.use the wheel balancerSo you got it!
