The method I’m sharing is another build, showing how tailors do it! I was a waistcoat maker when I was at London’s National Theatre, so I’m very familiar with all styles of waistcoats! After you’ve chosen a pattern, here are some tips for a perfect finish:

Let’s start! 1. Cut off all outer and lining pieces and transfer all pattern marks including stitch marks and cuts to the bag. Interface front, front and pocket seams.2. A seam of 0.5cm is allowed throughout the felt construction, reverting to the standard 1.5cm level for bags. Folding bags are welded according to the marked fold line, right sides together. Then sew along the short edges.
4. Turn right side out and 0.5cm from bottom edge. Lay the felt fabric towards the bottom of the front piece, lining the hem with the cut marked on the front piece. Sew between the circles, on the line of the stitches.

9. Sew between the circles, on the front stitch on the felt.
10. Separate the lining and excess seams to allow, cut along the marked cuts, taking care to cut only through the front, not pieces of felt or lining.
11. Stick both bag liners through the hole to the inside and press the seams flat.
12. Press welt up from the right side. 13. For pocket bags, remember to go back to the 1.5cm seam allowance. Fold the front and side edges of the waistcoat outwards. They can be temporarily held with pins.14. In one motion, you sew the cut triangles into the bag lining and around the other three sides of the bag lining.
15. When you’re done, the bag lining edges should be completely enclosed when viewed from the back, forming the bag. So smart!
16. Sew the felt edges to the right side of the vest.

19. Turn right face out. Press the front to ensure the seams roll inward for a clean finish.20. Sew the two back and right side pieces together, stitching the neckline, eyelets and part of the bottom edge (leave a gap when turning).21. Clip the curves, then clip the fronts inside the back layers (by threading through the hem opening) and pin in place to match the raw edges at the shoulders and side seams. Sew shoulder and side seams through all layers.
22. Pull the front out through the bottom hole to flip the right side out. Press, then sew the opening along the bottom edge. 23. Sew the eyelets along the left center front according to your pattern location markers. Sew the buttons to the right side of the front to finish!
