How To Run A Basketball Camp

With basketball camp season approaching, it’s important that you get your basketball camp ready. Here are some helpful tips for organizing a successful basketball camp… Read: how to organize a basketball camp Let’s clarify the purpose of the camp! What are you trying to accomplish with your basketball camp? Is it to have fun and create a passion for the game? Is it supposed to be an intense skill development camp for serious players? If you don’t make this clear in your camp information, you could end up disliking players and parents alike because they’re looking for something different. Younger players (usually 12 and under) need to be exposed to fun camps to build a passion for the game. While the toddlers are ready for the next step, a more intense basketball camp may be preferred. Organized Being unorganized can be the death of a successful basketball camp, especially if you’re new to camping. It is important for you to know the size of the gym, how many loops will be, how many campers will be present, how many trainers will be there, what your camping schedule will be like, and Some back-to-back activities enhance exercises and skills in case you get the job done faster or you need to give up a drill that isn’t performing as well. If you figure these out ahead of time, you’ll look like a seasoned vet. Nothing gets bored faster, jeopardizes player development, and deters parents from enrolling your child for your next camp than standing around doing nothing. Even if it’s a drill that requires one player to do one exercise at a time, get them involved in bouncing back and passing the ball. If there are too many children, set up stations that allow you to engage more than one child at a time. Taking the time to develop exercises that keep kids active and parents happy will lead to more happy campers and more campers coming back to your next camp. Teach skills and exercises that players can do at home. Your goal for each camp should be to teach players skills and exercises that every kid can do at home or at the local gym. The players and parents will appreciate you a lot more if you show them how to become better players after your basketball camp days. Keep the camp moving. Otherwise, you will lose interest and intensity from the players at your camp. Even if you still want to work with the same skill, just use a different drill or a different format of the same drill. For example, you might want to work on a form. An easy way to keep doing that is to be able to switch between wall shot, partner shot, line shot, back shot, and target shot. The younger they are, the quicker you usually need to get on with another exercise. I try to keep all the drills under 10 minutes. Usually, my goal is between 5 and 7 minutes. Incorporating Character Development A quality camp isn’t just about developing basketball players, it’s about developing these young people into successful adults. Incorporate things like attitude, hard work, loyalty, and kindness into your camp. Parents will appreciate you helping their child become a better person. And when the kids become adults, they will appreciate you too. What do you think? Not only do the parents love it, but the kids love talking about topics that affect their daily lives, such as bullying and peer pressure. As I am also a doer, there is nothing worse than seeing really bad attitudes (learned from professional sports) at a young age. If exposed and taught about sportsmanship at an early age, it can help in the high school years. Jon Fletcher says: 5/24/2012 at 5:20:47 AM Cool Tip – How about some tips for organizers?
