We went looking for really effective methods of plastic recovery. We’ve found three that are good and one that works, but we don’t recommend it.

1. Flaxseed oil

Oil will generally restore faded plastic. The best oil for this is flaxseed oil. We got this idea from the following video, where ATV owners mix linseed oil with paint thinner in a ratio of 40/60. You’ll also notice they use boiled flaxseed oil, not regular oil. Boiled flaxseed oil doesn’t really boil. It is treated with heat and additives to make it dry faster – in about 24 hours. Regular flaxseed oil can take days or weeks to dry. Remove the bracket and any other parts on top of the plastic, we also recommend washing your ATV and letting it dry before applying linseed oil. After application, let it dry for a day. This method seems to last quite a while, as long as you keep your ATV covered or covered when not in use. It will keep its shiny appearance for several months. Read more: how to get rid of ugly toenails If you use ATV outdoors a lot, the treatment will last a month or so, but you can easily reapply it.

2. Store-bought plastic recovery

There are many products in stores that claim to recover plastic. Some of the most popular are Solution Finish and CAR GUYS Plastic Restore. One of the customer reviews shows that they work well. The extended recovery time varies between products and how well you protect your ATV. But most seem to last for several months. When using a particular restorer, check the application’s instructions on the label. Also, most of these products are good for vinyl as well. If your ATV seats have a vinyl coating, you can use these restorers to reverse the fading process.

3. Hot air gun

This is one of those controversies that we discourage. It works like this: you set the heat gun to the lowest setting then blow it a few inches away from the plastic, moving it slowly through the blurred areas. This method produces instant results. Discolored resin instantly becomes new and shiny. The heat partially melts the top layer of the plastic, making it look like new. Similar to other plastic recovery methods, the heat gun method doesn’t last forever. Oxidation and fading will return after a few weeks or months. So you have to repeat the processing. recommend using a heat gun. Use linseed oil or a resin restorer. If you want permanent recovery, see the last method below.

4. Painting

Instead of trying to restore faded plastic, you can give it a fresh coat of paint. Find the right spray paint for ATV plastics. You may also have to apply a primer and a protective top coat.

How to fix cracks in plastic and windshield

Cracked plastic is a bit more difficult to repair. If a piece of plastic has come off, not just a simple crack, you’re better off replacing the entire plastic part. We’ve found several possible ways to fix cracked ATV plastic. However, most of them, such as using epoxy or superglue, don’t work very well. As soon as you go out with the ATV again, the sealing crack will come off. The fix that seems to work best is to melt the plastic. You can use a plastic welder, a heat gun, a soldering iron, or some other heat source to melt the plastic along the crack. You will need to apply pressure on both sides of the plastic until the molten plastic cures and holds. The ATV owner in the video below uses a zip fastener. You can also buy plastic welding rods or reinforced plastic mesh, for windshields, as it is likely that acrylic, acrylic solvent cement or acrylic adhesive is the best solution. Remember to wash the windshield before using any product.
