How To Replace Cv Axle Toyota Camry

This article applies to the Toyota Camry (2002-2006). The CV shaft is the physical connection between your transmission and your wheels as well as the brakes. CV stands for constant velocity, which refers to the fact that it is a joint that can be bent (i.e. when the steering wheel turns and still transmits force). The CVs on your car are fitted with a thick, greasy rubber boot. This keeps the joint clean and lubricated. Usually, when a CV fails, it’s from tearing the boot, causing grease to leak out and allowing the joint to bond and eventually fail. If your CV doesn’t work out, you’ll likely hear a loud click while driving. Driving on blown CVs will eventually land you on the curb, so replace them before that happens. This DIY will give an overview of the driver’s side CV shaft removal. The removal of the passenger side is very similar, but there are a few differences that are pointed out in the Related Discussion links and the video at the end of the article.

Step 1 – Lift the front of the vehicle and remove the wheel

Step 5 – Create Access to Remove Axis

Step 6 – Remove the shaft and install the new shaft

This is the moment you’ve been waiting for! The preferred method of removing the shaft is to use a vise clamp and a hammer as shown in Figure 7. With some persuasion, the CV shaft will slide out and the new shaft can slide into place in the reverse process. The rest of the suspension will be reinstalled the same way it was removed.
