Step 1 – Lift the front of the vehicle and remove the wheel

Step 2 – Remove the shaft nut cotter pin
Remove the shaft nut cotter pin by straightening its tabs and pulling them out with pliers. If it doesn’t come off easily, then use WD-40 to break down some of the rust clinging to it.

Step 4 – Remove tie rod and control nut
Remove multiple 17mm nuts as shown in Figures 4 and 5. These nuts hold the axle assembly and front suspension in place, so they need to be removed to allow the shaft to slide out.

Use a hammer to hit your front axle closest to the rear of the vehicle to rotate the axle towards the front of the vehicle. This will fracture the loose shaft of the wheel hub and make it one step closer to removal.

Step 6 – Remove the shaft and install the new shaft
This is the moment you’ve been waiting for! The preferred method of removing the shaft is to use a vise clamp and a hammer as shown in Figure 7. With some persuasion, the CV shaft will slide out and the new shaft can slide into place in the reverse process. The rest of the suspension will be reinstalled the same way it was removed.
