How To Remove Duplicate Contacts in Android

Sometimes your phone makes two or more copies of a contact. This mainly happens when you factory reset a device and sync contacts or change SIM and accidentally sync all contacts. This can completely clutter up your contacts, making it difficult to navigate through your contacts. Now you can always manually delete individual copies of all your contacts, but this will take forever. Don’t worry, we know some simple tricks to remove duplicate contacts from your phone with just a few taps. android phones come with built-in contact merge feature (not all of them though). Your phone will scan all contacts and allow you to delete all duplicate contacts with similar numbers and email addresses. Go to your Contacts app and tap the menu button. From the menu, tap “Merge Accounts,” and from the next prompt, tap “Merge from Google.” From the next prompt, tap “OK” and all your contacts will be merged.This will merge accounts to remove duplicate contacts that have been created by multiple accounts. Therefore, this method may not resolve all duplicate contacts. If you want to back up your data, then you most likely have Gmail contact sync enabled. This is a built-in android feature that will sync all your contacts with the Gmail account attached to your phone. Gmail account and click “Gmail” from the left menu. From the drop-down menu, click “Contacts” and all your contacts will be displayed.Now click “Add” at the top of the screen and from the drop-down menu click “Find & Merge Duplicates…”After a short period of time, you will see all the duplicate contacts. You can deselect any contact if you want to keep it, otherwise just click “Merge” and all your contacts will be merged.This will merge all the contacts in your Android phone that are connected to that Gmail account. There are many apps on the Google Play Store that allow you to remove duplicate contacts. In this tutorial we will be using Duplicate Contacts app. It is an extremely simple application to use and it also has a good reputation on Google Play Store, all you have to do is download and launch the application and it will automatically scan and display all duplicate contacts.
