How To Play Against Friends On Super Mario Run

At first glance, you might think Super Mario Run is an offline, single-player adventure. That would be fine because that’s what Nintendo has become known for with the Mario franchise, but Super Mario Run is truly multidimensional. (And it’s not offline either.) In fact, if you link your Nintendo account, you can add friends and unlock a new social aspect. The social section of Super Mario Run lets you compare your scores from the tour with friends, while also competing against online players in rally mode. This is a race against the clock to collect the most coins against others and get the most toads cheering you on. Both rally and score comparison modes are great for motivating you to keep playing the game and bettering yourself.

Add friends and compare in Super Mario Run

To add friends in Super Mario Run, head to the Mushroom Kingdom where all your sporadic game engines appear. Before you can add anyone, you need to first link the game to your Nintendo account. Tap My Nintendo in the top right to do so, then create an account or sign in with your existing credentials. If you’ve previously downloaded and played Miitomo, signing in will import your Mii into Super Mario Run.Once you’ve signed in with Nintendo and are back in your realm, the left side is the Friends panel. Click it to open your friends list. Unfortunately, there’s nothing you can do from here. You just get your friends list and their current score from rally mode.Read more: how to make your best friend your girlfriend To add new people press Add at the bottom. This is where it gets hopelessly antiquated. Here you will be given your player ID. You must give this 12-digit string to your friends for them to enter so they can send you a friend request. Why Nintendo doesn’t allow us to create our own usernames instead of using random digits is completely out of my opinion. Alas, this is the current process for adding friends. You can also enter someone else’s player ID here to submit a request.The problem is slightly rectified as Nintendo also allows you to invite people via email or text and Facebook and Twitter links to see which friends are playing. If you’re signed in, the app will show you a list of friends with quick actions to add them. Notice how I said “should” – so far every time I try this, the app crashes for me.Once you have your friends list, you can see your high score right there and also in tour mode. I especially appreciate being able to see which of my friends collect the most coins per level so I have a goal worth completing. Since your friends’ achievements change constantly, levels are more fun to replay and improve.

Compete in Gathering Mode

The other social aspect of Super Mario Run is in rally mode. What really annoys me about this mode is that you can’t manually choose a friend to compete against, and I don’t know what could cause this massive scrutiny. Instead, the game just randomly selects five other online players in the world, and you can choose one for your match. It also lists each player with their high scores so you can choose basically based on how challenging you want to be.Super Mario run chooses a custom level at random. Then start the races to collect the most coins and win the most toads. Each rally match costs a toad rally ticket, which you earn primarily through playing the tour. It’s also not a real-time match, which I really enjoy because I can pause if needed. Instead, you play against a specter of the player’s progress.When the game starts, collect as many coins as you can. The more coins you collect, the more toads appear to cheer you up. At the end of the game, the player with the most toads wins. You earn all the coins you collect to move to additional buildings in the kingdom, along with bonus games and rewards from My Nintendo.The Rally game is pretty fun and adds a welcome element to Super Mario Run.
