Put it in the microwave

Today, we are very quick to choose technology to help us. In this case, there’s a cake at stake, so we’ll do whatever it takes to help! Just moisten a paper towel and lay it flat on the microwave’s glass dish. Place the cake on top and run the microwave on medium heat for about ten seconds until enough moisture is retained. The only trick with this handy little trick is that it only works if you’re ready to serve your pie right away. The humidification effect caused by using the microwave does not last long! This method is often referred to as ‘nuking.’

Add ‘simple’ syrup

Make your own simple syrup using only two ingredients in equal amounts – sugar and water. Once heated, the mixture turns into a thick syrup – perfect for pouring or crumbling. Mix your own home-brewed mix and decant into a spray bottle, then coat the cake. Make sure you spray only the exposed portion of the cake (anything that has been cut or opened) and if you haven’t cut the cake, use any thin sharp tool to make small holes in the cake, then small syrup into the cake. Allow three hours to absorb. SIGN: You can use many different liquids to add new flavors to your cakes through this method, such as coconut milk. This top tip is more suitable if you don’t plan to serve your roast right away.

Bread method

An easy way to moisten your cake is to use the traditional bread making method – and it couldn’t be simpler. Place a slice of white bread with your cake in an airtight bag for a few hours. You’ll know when the cake has absorbed all the moisture because it will harden! We love this method because it’s super convenient, as most people have a slice of white bread hanging around the cupboard. Of course, given the amount of time it takes to allow this process to happen, this is also a recommended approach if you don’t want to serve the cake right after it’s baked.

The apple method

Can’t spare a slice of bread? Why not try the apple method instead?! Just slice the apple and place it in an airtight bag for a few hours after dry baking. You should be aware that there may be some apple flavor infused into your freshly moistened pie, so keep that in mind when choosing an apple flavor. Even so, who doesn’t love an apple pie, right?

Add to it

If you don’t like tweaking your actual baking, or you’re not sure anything you can add in the back will make much of a difference (we’ve all had bakers! ) Then why not think about what you can serve with the cake to add a little moisture?! Cakes are usually served with whipped cream, custard or whipped cream – so take that little option out and no one will even realize your cake is thirsty! Everyone’s seen the Facebook memes about when the omelette doesn’t work, you just have scrambled eggs, right? Well, we have the same idea for you if your cake looks more like a dessert than a desert! You can totally take your dehydrated creation and rework it into a pudding or some sort of layered cake. Victory! This hides the dryness but still gives your cake a delicious, tasty treat – what a creative way to fix a dry cake!

Steam it

Steam is one of your best friends when it comes to adding moisture to baked goods. To do this, you first need to place the cake in a baking box and topped with an ovenproof box large enough to clean the cake both in height and width. Next, you need to fill the roasting tin with boiling water and pour it until it is approximately halfway submerged. SIGN: Always avoid getting the cake directly wet with water. Allow this process to continue for a few minutes – remember there’s every chance your ice could start to melt, so keep a close eye on that! Once you’re satisfied this bain-marie-style tactic has had a chance to work, take the cake out and wrap it tightly in plastic as soon as possible to keep it moist. Hey before you start! Goodbye dry cake.

Method of folding towels

To put the cake in the baking tin, fold a thick towel and place it on top of the cake. Let the cake cool on a wire cooling rack. As it cools, the towel will trap the escaping steam and push it back into your oven. Easy as pie!

Milk or water method

This method is one of the easiest if you have a case that the cake dries out during storage. All you need to do is brush some milk or cold water on top of the cake. Then place in the preheated oven, over medium heat (about 350F/175C), for about 20 minutes or until crisp.

It’s all in memory

The enemy of moisture? Dry air! Store your cake properly in the first place to ensure maximum moisture retention and avoid any other emergencies. Once cooled, make sure your fresh cake is wrapped in plastic (completely airtight) and then stored in an airtight container. If you have the time and don’t need to decorate the cake right away, we recommend that you put the cake in the freezer overnight. This will help your cake layers stay juicy! Needless to say, when your cake is cut and served, store it right away in an airtight tin.
