How To Measure A Pool Table

There are different sizes of pool/snooker tables and knowing your measurements can save you money and heartache. Different pool table manufacturers use different width rails, so the industry standard is to measure your playing field. You should also know that a seven foot is not really 7′, an eight foot is not really an 8′, etc. Some people also believe that they have one size and that they actually have another. Take your tape measure and measure in inches between the pads at the short end of the pool table (see image of 8′ on the right). Do not measure under the mattress or inside the bag. The length is usually twice the width, but if that makes you more comfortable, you can also measure it vertically.Typical pool table sizes are: 7′ – 39″ x 78″ or 40″ x 80″ (sometimes called bar size) 8′ – 44″ x 88″ (sometimes called standard size) Pro 8 – 46″ x 92″ (this is the standard 8′ neck size) 9′ – 50 x 100 (sometimes called tournament size)

Find out the number of blocking vehicles

threepc2So not sure if you have a one-piece or three-piece slate pool table? It makes a huge difference if you are moving a pool table, especially when there are stairs. Take a look underneath the rails on either side of the side pockets. If you see the separation as shown in the photo on the right, you have a three-piece slate pool table. If you don’t see the separation, you can look underneath the table for two support beams. Two diagonal support beams usually means your pool/snooker table is a three-piece slab, but not always. Many pool tables manufactured between the 1960s and 1980s used slabs of stone, but not all. All nine footers never have a means of blocking one piece except for the Diamond coin operated pool tables. Almost all seven- and eight-foot coin-operated pool tables have a one-piece slab. Some antique pool/snooker tables have four-piece beds and we have yet to see a two-piece table.
