I make a lot of bags and sometimes I like to use leather or vinyl straps instead of the cotton fabric I’m using for purses. Buying leather straps can be expensive so making your own will save more money! It takes some practice and patience. The more you work with vinyl and leather, the easier it becomes. These instructions also work on leather and vinyl. Figure out how wide you want your strap to be, then multiply by 3 and that will be the width you need to cut your leather. For this tutorial, the finished straps are 1 1/2 inches wide. Required supplies:

  • Imitation leather, leather or vinyl – about 1/2 yard – enough to cut two 4 1/2 inch x 30 inch straps. The picture above shows the straps folded.
  • Cutting mats
  • Rotary cutter
  • Erase ruler
  • Sewing clip
  • Non-stick sewing machine presser foot
  • Pencil mark

Cut fake leather straps

Read more: how to shake herbalife with water Using a cutting mat, clear ruler and rotary cutter, cut two leather or vinyl straps 4 1/2 inches wide by 30 inches long. (The picture above shows the straps folded.)

Mark the width of the wallet strap

20190824 16122220190824 161342Measure 1 1/2 inches from the right edge of one of the purse straps and draw a straight line with a marker. Do the same with the second strap.

Fold the handle

20190824 161829Fold the left side of the strap onto the blue line. Hold in place with your sewing clips. NOTE: you do not want to use straight pins on leather or vinyl as the pins will leave visible holes.Fold the wallet strap with the stitching clipNow fold the other side of the bag and hold it in place with sewing clips as shown above.

Repeat these steps with the remaining strap.
