How To Make High Waisted Shorts From Jeans
The first business I started was an Etsy store selling vintage high-waisted denim shorts called Dirty Denims. After running it for two years, I made the difficult decision to sell it so I could focus on my lifestyle blog, Desert Bloomed. I personally sew each pair in the shop and it’s been a passion project for so long that I never stop making the shorts, even after selling the biz! I can’t wait to share all the tips I’ve learned over the years selling vintage denim.
Procurement process
All the high waisted shorts I’ve ever worn or sold have come from Savers, Goodwill, or other thrift stores. I have a mental checklist that helps me quickly flip through my inventory and pick the best pair to turn into cute shorts. You will definitely want to bring a tape measure as most of the time the sizes on the labels are based on vintage sizes and cannot be compared with modern sizes. During your search, make sure you’re looking for high-quality denim that’s thick and doesn’t stretch. The denim material of today’s jeggings is second to none!Advice– Look for jeans or denim shorts that are at least 10″ tall. – Try to find Levis, Lees or Wranglers as that is always the best quality denim. – Stay away from stained denim – go for white, black or blue. – All it takes is your waistline, so don’t be afraid to try on!
Cutting process

For more loot coverage, pull the front down just enough to see the card so the back will be cut longer.Step 2Measure the length you want and make a small mark where you will start cutting. Proportional, I recommend 2-inch panties for anything less than a 29″ waist and 3-inch bushings for anything with a 30 waist or more. I tie between 29″ and 30″ waistlines so I usually do 2.5″!Step 3At a slight diagonal angle, cut the shorts inside out. Make sure to keep them very flat the whole time so the line is really straight. Fold the jeans in half and do the same with the other leg, matching your first cut as much as possible.Step 4Read more: Tinolang Isda To crash, all you need is a box cutter and a small piece of cardboard. Place the cardboard between the legs of your shorts so you don’t accidentally cut a hole through or slit a pocket (which already exists!). Cut 2 inches across the places you want to disturb but remember not to cross the same spot too many times, or it will turn into a big hole!Step 5Put the shorts in the washer and dryer when you’re done cutting them all. This helps smooth out fraying and also washes away any dirt (they’re old, after all).
Finished product
After pulling the briefcase out of the dryer, you’ll have a pair of high-waisted shorts that fit perfectly with a hem of about 1/2″. If you want thicker hems, wash them again, but remember they will fray a little more each time you wash! Wear them to the beach, to a concert, to a bar, to a sporting event, you name it. Especially living in Phoenix, I stalk me 9 months out of the year!Let me know if you like these DIY high waisted shorts and I promise to make more! Read more: how to combine fireworks cakes together
