How To Make Dolls From Waste Materials

Video How to make dolls from waste materialsOur favorite crafter from Barcelona is back with a DIY craft project to recycle plastic bottles into a super fun hairstyling head doll. The most interesting part? Hair really grows! This project is perfect for making use of leftover yarn scraps… DIY recycled bottle doll hairstyle tutorial (with growing hair!)I can remember playing with one of these early dolls (as well as My Little Pony!). I love them so much that I thought it would be a great idea to give the doll a trendy pink and rainbow hairstyle. All the other kids love brushing her long and colored hair, pulling it to make it longer or shorter, using clips and elastic bands to hold the doll’s hair in different styles. As much fun as I did and play with this sweet little girl! DIY recycled bottle doll hairstyle tutorial (with growing hair!)

What you need

  • Two 5 liter plastic water bottles with lids
  • Yarn scraps
  • Tick
  • Paint and brush
  • Feel
  • Craft knife
  • Scissors
  • Awl
  • Glue
  • Hot glue gun (optional)
  • Dremel, electric drill or soldering iron (optional, to make larger holes)

Cut off the neck of the bottle to make a large 3.1 inch hole. You will need to have the top and bottom, cut a section from the center of the bottle and keep a short section at the top. You can leave the bottle uncut, but it can be a bit long. It doesn’t have to be perfect – the strokes actually look great! Place the head on the shoulder by inserting the bottom of the head bottle into the large hole on the shoulder. Glue them together To create a face for the doll, glue two plastic bottle caps in place of the eyes. Cut a 0.7 inch circle from red felt and another curve shape of felt for the smiley mouth, then glue. Cut three strands of yarn to the desired length. Thread a yarn needle, tie a knot at the end of the thread, and thread it through the holes starting at the bottom of the tip. I filled each hole with 5 or 6 yarns. Note: You can make things easier by using an electric drill or a small soldering iron to make larger holes and using duct tape to thread 5 strands of wool through at a time. Note that I marked the front of the head for the bangs/tassels using a short strand. The rest of the holes will be filled with long threads. That’s it! Now your new furry friend is ready to play and styled DIY recycled bottle doll hairstyle tutorial (with growing hair!)TIP: Make your hair shorter Remove the cap from the head and pull the yarn knots from the inside of the doll’s head. Cover the top of your head. DIY recycled bottle doll hairstyle tutorial (with growing hair!)TIP: Grow Hair From the outside of the head, pull the yarn out of the holes for different hair lengths.
