How To Make Bubble Gum Pink Paint

Painters, how do you incorporate pink? I suspect you take a red, add white and Voilà! Or the watercolorist just needs to add water. However, implementing this method of color mixing does not always yield the right pink color for a particular subject or painting. A more systematic method of mixing this seemingly simple color can be helpful.Like every other color, pink includes a full spectrum of shades. Pink is a pastel color that falls within the range of light values. This may be one reason why it can be a challenge to blend.

How do you combine pink?

When faced with the question “How to combine pink?” for any desired blend I start with defining the base or source color. In this situation, the base color is red. Next, I started thinking about designing a color mixing chart that I wanted to create. Since I don’t match a particular shade of pink to a particular subject or abstract painting, the chart is a good way to explore what I might have available when I want pink. There are many options and I encourage you to be creative in creating your color chart. Next, I asked this question, “Which color favors red mixed with pink? Is it purple red or orange red? ” As discussed in a previous post about create a pigment chart , I frequently refer to my various color charts. Here is an example of my red using acrylic paint. Any chart similar to this one will assist in determining which color offset will produce the pink color you want. It also provides a good reference for any coloring that I might want to do in future paintings. Is it interesting to see the difference in color just by mixing paint with some moderate substance? This is shown in the second column.Before continuing, let me describe what I drew before I started tinting. I used a 12″ x16″ canvas paper and with a clear 2 inch ruler I penciled in a matrix. (Watercolorists need to use good watercolor paper.) The boxes are about 1 1/2 ″ squares. I label my columns and rows with a pencil. (For this post, I’ve PhotoShopped the text in.) Next, I think I’ll experiment with mixing with both titanium and white zinc to blend the pink. Titanium is milky white, while zinc’s white is more transparent. You can see the results in the respective columns below. I found out that the colors are not different, but the transparency will work for different painting applications. It is also important to see how colored the white DULLS is. Many painters forget this. White lightens a color, but it does not lighten a color. White also adds a hint of blue to a mix.
