How Are Your Natural Nails Doing?

- Almond oil and walnut oil lend rich, nutty flavors and delicate scents when used in cold dishes, salad dressings and when used as finishing oils. Drizzle over grilled, steamed or roasted foods and on cooked risottos or pastas- anywhere you want a subtle nutty flavor!
- Both almond oil and walnut oil can be used in baking cakes, cookies and muffins to add a nutty flavor, as a (partial) replacement for another fat. Cold-pressed oils have a low smoke point, (the temperature at which an oil starts to get damaged, both in flavor and nutritional values), so they are not recommended for sautéing or cooking over high heat.
- Almond oil and walnut oil are both naturally rich in the highly antioxidant Vitamin E which makes it great for nourishing dry skin. It is even said to help reduce fine lines and signs of aging when applied topically to the skin over an extended period of time. They are also used to moisturize and make hair silky and smooth.
- Walnut oil is a great source of antioxidants and Omega fatty acids, making it one of the healthiest plant-based oils to add to your diet. It contains Omega-3 fatty acids, known for many health benefits, Omega-6 fatty acids which are important for skin and hair growth, and Omega-9s known to benefit the heart, the mind and mental well-being.
- Walnut oil can be used as a medium when oil painting and also to clean brushes! It can be mixed into paints and is a natural alternative to linseed oil, stand oil, and caustic solvents.
- Highly resistant to oxidation, walnut oil is great to smooth over your dry wooden utensils – it will help to protect the wood from splits and cracks.

Dermatitis, eczema, or dry skin
Moisturizers supply water to the skin and hold it in with an oily substance. Emollients smooth the skin, filling in little gaps. Rather than adding moisture, they help the skin retain it by improving its barrier function. Many people use almond oil to help treat common skin conditions, such as dermatitis and eczema. In general, there is good evidence that moisturizers improve eczema. One study showed that a moisturizer containing sweet almond oil reduced the symptoms of moderate or severe hand dermatitis.Another showed that emollients containing refined almond oil helped relieve itching and improved the skin’s barrier function in people with xerotic eczema, also known as asteatotic eczema, which causes the skin to become particularly dry, cracked, and itchy. Some people with acne use almond oil as a moisturizer, often alongside topical acne medication. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) caution that oil from moisturizers may make acne worse, but some doctors recommend moisturizing.
Stretch marks of pregnancy
Pregnant women looking to prevent stretch marks or reduce associated itching might try massaging almond oil into their abdomens. One study found that massage with bitter almond oil can reduce stretch marks, but that the application of the oil without massage did not.Another study indicated that sweet almond oil cream may reduce the itchiness of stretch marks and their spread.Overall, the evidence that almond oil helps with stretch marks is limited, and further research is necessary.
Anti-aging and UV protection
Almond oil may help reduce signs of aging and restore or support the barrier function of the skin. Some people also believe that almond oil may help protect the skin from the damaging effects of ultraviolet radiation, though there is very limited evidence for this.Instead, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend covering the skin when outdoors, staying in the shade, and using sunscreen.
Circles under the eyes and skin lightening
Some people rub almond oil under their eyes to reduce bags or dark circles. There is little reliable scientific evidence for this or for almond oil helping to lighten patches of darker skin.

How to make Almond oil
There are basically 2 methods of extracting almond oil but, we are using the blending the method with olive oil.
Recipe For Making Almond Oil Without A Blender
Take 2 cups of unroasted almonds, 3 tbsp of olive oil and a mortar and pestle. Use the mortar and pestle to grind the almonds as much as possible. When they are put in a grinder or a mixer, they will give a powder form. The same powder form can be achieved using a mortar and pestle. Add oil to the paste and if the batter is hard, then add 1 tbsp more oil. Keep on mixing until the two ingredients stick to each other. The almond oil can be stored in a dry place, for at least 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, the oil would separate from the cream; use a sieve to make sure that there are no loose parts left in the mix. Only use the oil that appears on the top, as part of a beauty routine. Almond oil can also be mixed with bath bombs, so that the bath time becomes more relaxing.
Can Oil From Almonds Without Crushing?
If the almonds are not crushed, then a person cannot extract oil from them. It is very easy to make almond oil at home, but a person would need a device in which they can crush the almonds. For example, if dry almonds are kept in a blender, and blended at low speed, they will start breaking down. During this process, add a tsp of olive oil in the blender and then put it on high speed. Store the blended almonds in a Tupperware for at least 2 weeks, as this will be enough time for the oil to extract from the mixture.
How Can You Tell Good Quality Almonds?
Buying bulk quantity almonds is not always better. When buying almonds from the supermarket, get organic almonds, and never buy them online. A person can never be sure that almonds are of good quality or even almonds, when they buy them online. They should be able to feel the product, and taste them (if tasting is allowed), before making a purchase. Also go and check out the how to make almond butter in a blender – click here for more info.
What Are The Side Effects Of Almond Oil?
Almond oil is safe for those who want to use it on their skin. However, if someone has a nut allergy, then they should not use almond oil, even on their hair or skin. If there is an allergic reaction, then that could result in serious consequences.
Is Sweet Almond Oil Good For Your Hair?
Sweet almond oil is very good for the hair, because it improves scalp circulation. It is a great way to stop hair fall, and it is a lightweight oil as well. It provides the same skin and hair benefits to the hair, which non-sweet almond oil does.Jessica Gavin Published on March 7, 2018

Almond Butter Benefits
Almond butter has been getting a lot of positive attention lately, possibly because it has more vitamins, mineral and fiber when compared to peanut butter. (Because peanuts are a legume, they also aren’t a part of the Paleo or Whole30 diets, which has many people looking to almond butter as an alternative.)Here are a few other benefits of almond butter:
- It’s a good source of monounsaturated fats, which have been associated with a lower risk of heart disease.
- Almonds are one of the best natural sources of vitamin E, an antioxidant, and may also help lower cholesterol.
- It’s a good source of magnesium, which is thought to promote healthy blood pressure.
- Studies have shown that people who regularly eat nuts & nut butters tend to avoid weight gain, despite the high calorie content in nuts. This may be due to the fact that nuts and nut butters are satiating and help balance blood sugar levels.
Homemade Almond Butter in a Blender
I use a food processor to make my almond butter, but you can use a powerful blender, if you’d prefer. I recommend adding 1/4 cup of oil to the recipe in that case, to help facilitate blending. My old 2-speed Vitamix would produce a burning smell when trying to make almond butter without the oil, but if you have a 10-speed Vitamix, the lower settings will help to avoid that.

Versatility
It’s one of my favorite oils to use in DIY skincare because it is so versatile. Plus, it’s one of the least expensive carrier oils available (it’s on sale at Mountain Rose Herbs this month too). It can be used in many different products, from lip care to hair, to body butter and more. This oil is fairly inexpensive, which means you can use it as a large portion of a skincare recipe or formulation. Consider this a great benefit as the cost of some carrier oils can drive the price of homemade skincare products quite high.
Scent
The scent of sweet almond oil is fairly mild. This is helpful as it doesn’t overpower other fragrances you’re trying to highlight in your homemade products (like essential oils).

This oil is usually a light yellow color. As with the scent, this is helpful when creating natural skincare products because it won’t overshadow other colors or shades you might wish to use.

The answer to this is, it depends. In one sense, this oil is usually well-suited for sensitive skin, so that makes it a good candidate for use on baby skin. What is the Difference Between Almond Meal and Almond Flour?
While almond meal is typically made from raw (unpeeled) almonds, almond flour is made from blanched (peeled) almonds.Compared to almond meal, almond flour has a finer texture and lighter color. These differences are even more pronounced when comparing almond flour to almond meal made from leftover almond pulp (all three versions pictured below — top: almond meal from pulp, middle: almond meal from raw almonds, bottom: almond flour).
When to Use Almond Meal vs Almond Flour?
Almond meal and almond flour can typically be used interchangeably in quick breads and cookies and they are great gluten-free alternatives to traditional flours. However, for recipes where a more cake-like consistency and less prominent almond flavor is desired, almond flour is definitely the way to go because of its lighter texture, color, and more neutral flavor. You can see an example of where we used almond meal in these 5-Ingredient Vegan Gluten Free Cookies and an example of where we used almond flour in this 1-Bowl Vegan Gluten Free Vanilla Cake.
How to Make Almond Meal
Making homemade almond meal is so easy! It requires just 1 ingredient, 1 blender, and 5 minutes.Simply add raw almonds (with skin on) to a blender and blitz until a fine, powdery flour is achieved. I like to turn the blender on the highest setting for 5-10 seconds, then stop, shake, and hit the sides to see if any clumps have formed. Then blend again until fine and powdery. You’ll know you’ve gone too far if it starts turning to almond butter or clumping up on the sides. Not only is it simple to make, but homemade almond meal tastes fresher and is usually more cost-effective than buying it at the store.
