    • Almond oil and walnut oil lend rich, nutty flavors and delicate scents when used in cold dishes, salad dressings and when used as finishing oils. Drizzle over grilled, steamed or roasted foods and on cooked risottos or pastas- anywhere you want a subtle nutty flavor!
    • Both almond oil and walnut oil can be used in baking cakes, cookies and muffins to add a nutty flavor, as a (partial) replacement for another fat. Cold-pressed oils have a low smoke point, (the temperature at which an oil starts to get damaged, both in flavor and nutritional values), so they are not recommended for sautéing or cooking over high heat.
    • Almond oil and walnut oil are both naturally rich in the highly antioxidant Vitamin E which makes it great for nourishing dry skin. It is even said to help reduce fine lines and signs of aging when applied topically to the skin over an extended period of time. They are also used to moisturize and make hair silky and smooth.
    • Walnut oil is a great source of antioxidants and Omega fatty acids, making it one of the healthiest plant-based oils to add to your diet. It contains Omega-3 fatty acids, known for many health benefits, Omega-6 fatty acids which are important for skin and hair growth, and Omega-9s known to benefit the heart, the mind and mental well-being.
    • Walnut oil can be used as a medium when oil painting and also to clean brushes! It can be mixed into paints and is a natural alternative to linseed oil, stand oil, and caustic solvents.
    • Highly resistant to oxidation, walnut oil is great to smooth over your dry wooden utensils – it will help to protect the wood from splits and cracks.

    1) Toast the Almonds

How to Make Almond OilGiving the almonds a few minutes to warm up in the oven and toast does three things. The heated almond oil imparts a sweet and nutty aroma to the spread. Procedure

Step 1 – Place the almonds in the blender. Make sure that the almonds are fresh and dry. Also makes sure that the mixer is clean and ready for use.Step 2 – Start blending at low speed. How well the almonds mix is primarily determined by the rate at which you blend them, an important thi Thus, to attain maximum blending start at a slow speed and keep increasing the speed swiftly.Step 3 – Pause in-between the process to clean the blender. As you blend, residue materials from the almonds will start to accumulate at the bottom of the blender. When a substantial amount has accumulated, turn off the mixer and scrape off the residue material and return it to the rest of the almonds. Note that you may have to do this a couple of times during the process so keep your eyes on the blender’s bottom.Step 4 – Increase the blending speed. As you get to blend more and more almonds, you can now increase the speed to medium or high speed. Doing so will help reduce the blending time significantly.Step 5 – Add the olive oil. When the almonds have evenly blended, to create a velvety, creamy paste, add a teaspoon of olive oil into the blender. This, in essence, speeds the process of blending and creates a smoother paste. Nonetheless, if the level of blending is not satisfactory, you can as well add another teaspoon of olive oil.Step 6 – Store the blended almonds. Once you are through will the process of blending the almonds, you can place them in a Tupperware or glass jar, and store them at room temperature for 14 days. If you want to learn how to make almond oil, you need to realize beforehand that the process is a long one, and you need to be patient. Storing the almonds is necessary as it ensures that the almonds get detached from their meat.Step 7 – Drain the oil. After the storage period is over, it’s time to get the oil from the oil. Tip the container with the almonds and let the oil to drip into a separate jar. Consider using the a sieve or strainer to separate the oil from the almonds. As the stated the quest for learning how to make almond oil boils down to having the right equipment and allowing the almonds enough time to separate from the meat. Almond Butter Ingredients

This homemade almond butter is made with just one ingredient— almonds! I use raw almonds, as I prefer their more mild flavor, but you can use roasted ones if you prefer. How to Make Almond OilThere’s no added oil required for this recipe, as the almonds will release their natural oils during the process. Look for organic almonds, if possible, as all “raw” almonds are required to be pasteurized in the United States, and organic almonds are steam pasteurized, rather than using chemicals.

    Almond Butter Benefits

Almond butter has been getting a lot of positive attention lately, possibly because it has more vitamins, mineral and fiber when compared to peanut butter. (Because peanuts are a legume, they also aren’t a part of the Paleo or Whole30 diets, which has many people looking to almond butter as an alternative.)Here are a few other benefits of almond butter:

    • It’s a good source of monounsaturated fats, which have been associated with a lower risk of heart disease.
    • Almonds are one of the best natural sources of vitamin E, an antioxidant, and may also help lower cholesterol.
    • It’s a good source of magnesium, which is thought to promote healthy blood pressure.
    • Studies have shown that people who regularly eat nuts & nut butters tend to avoid weight gain, despite the high calorie content in nuts. This may be due to the fact that nuts and nut butters are satiating and help balance blood sugar levels.

Homemade Almond Butter in a Blender

I use a food processor to make my almond butter, but you can use a powerful blender, if you’d prefer. I recommend adding 1/4 cup of oil to the recipe in that case, to help facilitate blending. My old 2-speed Vitamix would produce a burning smell when trying to make almond butter without the oil, but if you have a 10-speed Vitamix, the lower settings will help to avoid that.

    How to Make Almond Butter

As I mentioned before, making almond butter really just requires patience, but I’ve included step-by-step photos below to help you gain the confidence you need. I think it helps to have a visual example! To get started, I recommend warming your almonds in the oven for about 10 minutes at 350ºF. This step is optional, but it can save you and your food processor some time, as the almonds will heat up regardless from this process. How to Make Almond OilAdd the almonds to the bowl of your food processor, fitted with an “S” blade, attach the lid and start processing. I use one pound of almonds at at time, which is roughly 3 cups. How to Make Almond OilBe prepared, the food processor will be running for a while. You’ll notice that the ground almonds will start to collect around the edges of the bowl, so be sure to stop and scrape down the sides every few minutes, just to keep everything blending evenly.Depending on the size of your food processor, you’ll notice a change start to happen around the 10 to 15 minute mark. As the oils are released from the almonds, they’ll start to stick together and form a large mass that moves around the bowl. You’ll also notice that the almond butter is getting rather warmHow to Make Almond OilAfter about 20 minutes of consistent processing- right about the time when you think you’re never going to wind up with almond butter and want to give up- magic will happen. You’ll finally have a grainy-looking almond butter. Don’t worry, you’re almost there! After a few more minutes of processing, your almond butter will become smooth and creamy. How to Make Almond OilLet the almond butter cool, then transfer it to a 16-ounce container with a lid. I don’t recommend sealing the almond butter until it’s completely cool, so that it doesn’t create steam inside the jar. (Steam will cause it to spoil faster.)Homemade almond butter can be stored for at least 2 weeks in the fridge, but mine often lasts longer as long as I am careful not introduce any moisture to the jar.How to Make Almond Oil

Is Almond Butter Healthier than Peanut Butter?

I started using almond butter as a replacement for peanut butter in many cases, because peanuts tend to be more susceptible to mold that produces aflatoxin, which has been associated with liver cancer. What is Sweet Almond Oil?

The oil is rich in vitamins A and E as well as the fatty acids, proteins, potassium, and zinc.It is an excellent carrier oil or an ingredient which works well in body care products.A perfect moisturizer for skin and hair. (Learn more about the differences here.)

Why Use Sweet Almond Oil in Homemade Skincare Products?

There are a few reasons you might consider using this oil in homemade skincare:

    Versatility

It’s one of my favorite oils to use in DIY skincare because it is so versatile. Plus, it’s one of the least expensive carrier oils available (it’s on sale at Mountain Rose Herbs this month too). It can be used in many different products, from lip care to hair, to body butter and more. This oil is fairly inexpensive, which means you can use it as a large portion of a skincare recipe or formulation. Consider this a great benefit as the cost of some carrier oils can drive the price of homemade skincare products quite high. How to Make Almond Oil

    Scent

The scent of sweet almond oil is fairly mild. This is helpful as it doesn’t overpower other fragrances you’re trying to highlight in your homemade products (like essential oils).

    Color

This oil is usually a light yellow color. As with the scent, this is helpful when creating natural skincare products because it won’t overshadow other colors or shades you might wish to use.

What Skin Type is Suitable for Sweet Almond Oil?

It’s suitable for most skin types (although you should definitely avoid it if you have a nut allergy).

What is the Shelf Life of Sweet Almond Oil?

About 12 months (1 year). To prolong shelf life store in a cool, dark place.

Can I use Sweet Almond OIl on My Face?

Generally, the answer is yes. It is suitable for most skin types and can be used as a make up remover, in eye creams, facial serums, and lotions.Obviously, if you experience any sort of reaction, remove immediately and discontinue use.Do not use if you have an allergy to tree nuts.

Can I Use Sweet Almond Oil on My Baby?

The answer to this is, it depends. In one sense, this oil is usually well-suited for sensitive skin, so that makes it a good candidate for use on baby skin. However, I often avoid it in the early months due to the risk of allergies. If there is any risk or possibility of a child having a nut allergy, then do not use it.

Can I use Sweet Almond Oil in My Hair?

Yes! It’s great for hair. The fatty acids and conditioning properties help make hair silky smooth. I personally use it to create a DIY Rosemary Hot Oil hair treatment but it can be used cold, without heating. For an un-heated oil hair treatment, simply rub a small amount of oil between the palms of your hands and gently massage into damp or dry hair.It also works well as a massage oil for the scalp. Try adding a drop of rosemary essential oil to two teaspoons of carrier oil for a fragrant scalp treatment. As you can see, there are many ways to use this inexpensive oil. I hope you’ll give some of these options a try. If you do, let me know what you think. How to Make Almond Oil

How to Make Almond OilI recently created my own natural shea butter & almond oil moisturiser and I thought I’d share the recipe with you too. It’s easy to do and can be used on both your face and body; it feels beautiful on your skin, plus a little goes a long way.I decided to make my own moisturiser for two reasons: to cut down on plastic and because I wanted to use something completely natural on my skin. Hopefully it will save me money long-term, also.I bought both the shea butter and almond oil on the internet, choosing products which came in glass bottles rather than plastic. The only slight disadvantage of making your own natural beauty products is that you must be careful about bacterial growth; this moisturiser is probably good for 2-3 months maximum in an air-tight jar.You can see from my photos below my finished product is not quite so beautiful as the professional image used above; however, I can assure you that it is wonderful to use!Directions:

  • Double boil roughly half a cup of shea butter by placing it in a bowl placed in a saucepan of boiling water on your stove until it has melted into a liquid.
  • Add two tablespoons of almond oil, then take off the heat and put in the fridge for about 20 minutes or until it starts to harden.
  • Take out of the fridge and whisk using a fork; you will notice within a couple of minutes it will have thickened considerably.
  • Transfer into a jar (I used a couple of small jars including the one the shea butter came in), allow to cool and voila!

What is the Difference Between Almond Meal and Almond Flour?

While almond meal is typically made from raw (unpeeled) almonds, almond flour is made from blanched (peeled) almonds.Compared to almond meal, almond flour has a finer texture and lighter color. These differences are even more pronounced when comparing almond flour to almond meal made from leftover almond pulp (all three versions pictured below — top: almond meal from pulp, middle: almond meal from raw almonds, bottom: almond flour). How to Make Almond Oil

When to Use Almond Meal vs Almond Flour?

Almond meal and almond flour can typically be used interchangeably in quick breads and cookies and they are great gluten-free alternatives to traditional flours. However, for recipes where a more cake-like consistency and less prominent almond flavor is desired, almond flour is definitely the way to go because of its lighter texture, color, and more neutral flavor. You can see an example of where we used almond meal in these 5-Ingredient Vegan Gluten Free Cookies and an example of where we used almond flour in this 1-Bowl Vegan Gluten Free Vanilla Cake. How to Make Almond Oil

    How to Make Almond Meal

Making homemade almond meal is so easy! It requires just 1 ingredient, 1 blender, and 5 minutes.Simply add raw almonds (with skin on) to a blender and blitz until a fine, powdery flour is achieved. I like to turn the blender on the highest setting for 5-10 seconds, then stop, shake, and hit the sides to see if any clumps have formed. Then blend again until fine and powdery. You’ll know you’ve gone too far if it starts turning to almond butter or clumping up on the sides. Not only is it simple to make, but homemade almond meal tastes fresher and is usually more cost-effective than buying it at the store. How to Make Almond Oil

Why Do Lips Need A Separate Care?

The skin of lips is different from the skin of other parts of your body. Lips are quite delicate and need extra care and attention that the rest of your body. Your lips don’t have sebaceous glands (glands that help to keep your skin moisturized). The only source of moisture is your saliva and hence they tend to become dry very easily. Secondly, the skin of your lips doesn’t have melanin pigment- a pigment that imparts colour to your skin and helps to protect your skin from harmful sun rays. Thirdly, the lips don’t have hair follicles. The skin on your face is 16 layers thick while the skin on your lips is just 3-5 layers thick. Therefore the skin of lips is extra delicate and extra sensitive and hence needs separate care and extra hydration.

What is Almond Oil Good For?

The citrus here is darn good. Since my house actually has a lemon tree, I love getting to find new lemon recipes to try each spring. That’s why I decided to try making an almond and lemon olive oil cake. I’ve done a polenta olive oil cake in the past, but I wanted a softer texture. So this time, I ditched the polenta and used flour instead. How to Make Almond Oil I decided to be pretty aggressive with the lemon in this recipe. I wanted to ensure there was a strong enough lemon flavor to cut through the almonds. Although I mostly used this recipe, I also used aspects of this recipe to come up with my unique take on lemon olive oil cake.I’m so glad I experimented with this recipe. It turned out so well and my entire family loved it! My kids can be so picky when it comes to my recipes, so I was so glad they loved this one as much as I did. If you like almond and lemons, this is the recipe for you. It is such a nice dessert because it is not that sweet or heavy so it’s a great way to end an Italian (or any spring-time) meal.
