How To Make A Vapor Blaster

A few months ago I had some blown parts for my last CB550 project. The steam finishing created on the aluminum parts is amazing! It restores them to “like new” which cannot be reached from any other process. There’s only one problem: the igniter is very EXPENSIVERead: How to Make a Blower The machine used on CB550 parts costs around $25,000! I think the cheapest machine on the market costs around $4,000! So I started converting my dockside cargo blower into a VAPOR BLASTER!Turns out the conversion isn’t that hard, it’s fun, and can be done for $1300 or less. Is it as beautiful as the above machines? No, however, I’m getting the same results in MINE So, if you want to build your own cabinets, I’ve made a plan that anyone can follow and finally have the inflatable method available for your projects! Products needed for the construction process. Open versus closed loopRead more: how to convince your girlfriend to stay with youOpen loop Requires a fresh water holder to wash the nozzle and wash the window. Water added to the system needs to be periodically drained and disposed of. This type of machine works effectively if the connecting pipe and drain hose are available. In addition, it costs less than the closed-loop version to build.Closed ring Self-filtering and water storage. Water added to the system is discharged through a manual or automatic overflow valve and passed through a number of filter cartridges to remove any media from the water. Plans have a programmable timer delay and an air-operated overflow valve to automatically pump water into the filter cartridges. The water becomes relatively clean and is supplied to the water pump as required to wash the faucets and wash the windows. (Note: that automatic overflow valve can also be used for open loop, however that information is covered in the closed loop diagram). in winter time… no thanks). Watch the video below explaining the open loop and the closed loop turn on and you can start blasting. Lift your feet and everything will be off. When you hit the foot pedal and start blasting, the following happens behind the scenes:

  • Air is supplied to the gun
  • The slurry pump is turned on, simultaneously agitating the water/media and pumping it to the spray gun.
  • Electricity from the water is turned on and fresh water is sprayed on the glass door.
  • The wiper motor turns on and keeps the windows clean.
  • For the closed loop, the delay timer and the air solenoid open the overflow valve to automatically pump water into the filter cartridges once you’re done blasting.

WOOD 42X30 DIY BuildIf the HF cabinet is too small for your needs, I have plans on how to build a much larger 42×30 cabinet from 3 panels PLYWOOD, waterproof and works great! You can find plans for this machine here. | Top Q & AD Not sure which machine to build: HF or wood version? I have put together the plans so you can see all the information and then make a decision. Or build both! Other requirements

  • Requires connection to garden freshwater faucet (open loop only)
  • 120V / 220V depending on where you live.
  • Compressor with a minimum of 6 CFM or more. See below.

Compressor / Blast Gun: How well this machine will handle parts is entirely dependent on how much CFM your compressor outputs. Simply put, the more CFM you have, the larger the jet and nozzle you can run in the blast gun, resulting in more explosive energy. It will certainly work with a smaller compressor, however it WILL just take LONGER, and you will wait for the compressor to catch up. This is true of any blast, wet or dry. I provide several gun “recipes” for 6-25 CFM and everything in between. Watch the video below to compare burst power with different CFMs.Bare Bones Version You can build a blower for much less, if you decide not to include some features: window wipers, window washers, automation control boxes and pedals foot. In addition, using plastic fittings instead of brass will reduce costs. I have included a “bare bone” part/cost list in programs that reduce costs to $550 or so. The video explains this in more detail. Mixing Abrasives One interesting thing about pump & stir systems, is that you can mix 2 different abrasives to get the results you want. In the video below, I’m dealing with a stubbornly corroded 40+ year old part. A blend of glass beads and aluminum oxide performs the all-in-one “cutting” and “polishing” step for the first pass. You can then change back to a well-finished medium for a nice satin look.

220V Info / Great DIY Works

The plans include a pdf document with 220V information for those of you who live outside the US. There are 5 different parts required to power 220V instead of 120V. Links to parts are provided. Here are videos of DIY builds from around the world! These people have made plans and built their own cabinets. Another thing to keep in mind is that these plans can be used to transform pretty much any cabinet. TWICE Fast is just upgrade the explosive gun. The cheap $30-40 gun that I originally used (and found in expensive retail machines) was very ineffective. The HTMR Blast Gun is a high-precision gun that simply makes the most of the CFM you have at your disposal. You can buy them here. Read more: how to knit 2 purl 2
