I have an easy project for you today. This is my second project from my flea market that I showed you guys earlier this month. Last week was so busy that I picked out my easiest project and here it is.Cigarettes used to keep tobacco leaves in the barn until the leaves were dry. The sticks are like snowflakes, no two are alike but they are nearly the same, all about 4 to 5 feet wide and about 1 inch to 1 1/2 inches wide. With 5 sticks, I set up a star that fits the size. It’s the 48-inch gauge next to the star (Is it still a gauge if it’s 48″?) It’s a bit big for my walls, so time for trimming.I had 8 cigarette sticks, enough to make 2 stars. If you put them all together, even the head, you can chop them all in one drop. Use 5 of each 43″ cut for a larger star and 3 halves to make a 25″ cut for a smaller star.Read more: Attaching the air tree 101 Now that all the sticks are the same length, rearrange your star to keep the points the same size.I’m using a nail gun with 1 1/2 inch nails to secure all joints and star points. It’s quick and easy. You can leave the stars as they are. I decided to wrap my head with a small jute thread. If you’ve never wound any raw ends, I’ve included a quick guide. Cut the length of jute to about 48″. With your thumb, hold one end of the string in place (diagram 1). . From the top down, wrap the first string that you are holding with your thumb, wrapping it at least 5 or 6 times (diagram 2). When finished, tie the two ends together (diagram 3). your button into the space between the cigarette sticks (diagram 4).This is a smaller star that is easily hung with a nail.Read more: how to become a better queuerAnd the larger star fits perfectly above the sofa.If you don’t happen to live in or near one of the southern tobacco states, you can find the sticks on Ebay.My updated flea market transformation… a bar cart, shelves made from desk drawers, lamps made from stands, stars made from cigarettes, whale details from a jack, a coffee table from a silo and a pair of tall stencils Share at Talk of the Town, DIY Salvaged Junk Read more: how to use handcuffs in bed
