During our harsh farm remodel, I lost track of how many times I said, “Oh! You won’t believe the idea I just found on Pinterest.” And then I often get a “look” from him, best described as an eyebrow raised with a slight roll of the eye. ???? What can I say? There’s nothing I love more than fresh inspiration and big ideas and sometimes I get a little crazy with my pinning and planning. Thankfully, his practicality often keeps me somewhat grounded. - I had a hard time finding the tub on the rack that was used as a sink. Many replicas out there are for decorative purposes only, or for growing plants – they are not watertight.
- The legit antiques I found were too flimsy for regular use and they leaked.
- I needed a single tub (due to the space in our laundry room), not a double tub. The only place I could find selling single, watertight spawning tanks were completely sold out.
So I had to readjust my sails and come up with a different plan. I scoured my local antique stores for an old bathtub, but kept coming back, as whatever I found was either the wrong size or had rust holes in the bottom. So we finally decided to buy a $24 galvanized tub from our local farm store. Not necessarily my first choice, but now that it’s in, it’s perfect.
The galvanized tub we chose is 22 inches in diameter and I don’t have to worry about leaks because it’s new. We also chose to put it on top of the counter, instead of placing it inside. I like the obvious look and want everyone to be able to see the entire tub. Read more: How to Tie a Protector – Infinity Button We drilled a hole in the bottom of the tub, bought a drain for it, and opted for chrome tubing underneath, instead of PVC, because of exposed plumbing. go out. Sure is not. Because it’s not designed to be a sink, the bottom doesn’t taper, so it doesn’t drain perfectly. However, it’s perfect for washing garden vegetables, jars of milk or fresh eggs. However, we needed a very specific size to fit between our washer/dryer and I couldn’t find any suitable antique desks or cabinets there. Instead, Prairie Husband built a custom stand with some leftover rough cut cedar that we hung around. I love copper, but I don’t have the guts to put it on my kitchen counter (I’m too rough with things when it comes to cooking…). So putting it in the laundry room is a nice compromise.
I like that life ends at that age and matures over time. *swoon*Water tap:I definitely wanted a vintage faucet to match the feel of the rest of the room, so I bought this vintage faucet from Amazon. The sprayer is especially important to me, as I want flexibility if I’m washing something awkward (like a small dog…) or need to drain the bottom of the tub after washing a bunch of muddy carrots, or something similar.
Rest of the room:The laundry room can be very functional, but I still want it to be rustic. I don’t really care for crochet and like my “decorations” to be functional pieces stored in beautiful ways. White plank paneling (custom-fabricated by Prairie Husband, of course) and salvaged corrugated iron panels add a rustic feel to the room.
This is an old headboard that I got at a garage sale for $1. I give it a chic white paint, galvanized steel panels and vintage buttons to give it a second life as a message center.
We ordered this simple elegant 15-panel window from our local building store and colored it to match the doors and trim in the rest of the house (stain is Jacobean by Minwax).
This room is going to get a lot of abuse from the Mud Meadow Kids, so we used wooden look tile instead of real hardwood.
I found this crazy bull head on topqa.info and it immediately caught my eye. It’s pretty quirky and off-beat, which is exactly why I love it. I think I could put some greenery around it, or maybe an old chipped paint frame. I named her Wilma.
Overall, I love this room. Believe it or not, it actually used to be our dining room – no windows at all, very short, uneven ceilings and just enough room for 4 people to sit around a table. I think it’s a much better laundry room. I still hate doing the laundry, but at least I have Wilma to keep me company when I’m there.
