How To Make A Pom Pom Puppy
Not a week goes by without my 8-year-old daughter mentioning the “Can I PLEASE give the dog” conversation. She would be a great dog mom and would absolutely love to have a little guy to love and care for, but sadly our work/life balance doesn’t allow for that right away. now. In the meantime, we’ll have to make our own four-legged friends! Allow me to introduce the newest member of our family – Homemade Pom Pom Puppy! The best part about Pom Pom Pup is that you can dress him (or her) as you please! We order our capes, of course, because everything is better with a cape, but you can really add anything to your little guy – buttons, ribbons, even small handmade outfits! It requires very few ingredients and takes no time – the Pom Pom Puppy is the easiest pet to keep ever!
- Soft wool yarn
- Pom pom maker (cardboard circle or store-bought)
- Store-bought pom poms come in different sizes (small/medium, available at craft stores)
- Felt (for ears and accessories)
- Scissors
- Quick-drying fabric glue
Step 1 First, create 2 large pom poms and 1 smaller pom pom using your yarn generator and pom pom. The two large poms will be the “head” and “body”, and the last smaller part will be the “snout”.Step 2 Pick one of these and wrap a long piece of yarn around a generous portion of the pom pom to tie it off (this bun will end up being the face).Step 3 Hold the pom pom in the bun you just created and cut around the back of the pom pom to clean the wool ends. Think of it as a dog haircut! But make sure to leave a long, soft yarn around the bun in your hand – otherwise what will become the puppy’s “face”.Step 4 Cut the remaining two pomelos into nice and neat spheres. Leave the long string on the pom pom “body” (white in the image above), as you will need this to tie the pom pom head and body together later.Step 5 Time to assemble! Start with the “head” pom pom (the one from Step #2). Take the yarn you used to create the face (pink beak) and spread out the long strands of the bun to create a deep hole in the center. Squeeze some fabric glue into the center of the bun, then take your smaller pom pom and press and hold it in place. This will be your muzzle.Step 6 Next, glue the mini-store pom poms (mine is black) to make the eyes and nose. To do this, you will again separate the desired part of the pom pom, squeeze a drop of glue in and hold the pom in place until the glue holds. Take the felt and cut out two ear-shaped pieces. Again, separate the yarn on the pom pom, press into the glue and hold the ear in place. You can even add a little band of felt and a button for the collar – or a cape for Super Pup’s fun adventures! After all, even puppies love to dress up. Wow woof!
