While you can use pre-made pizza dough, I thought – why bother since it’s so simple to make yourself. My easy pizza dough uses bread flour, granulated sugar, instant yeast, filtered water, Kosher salt, and olive oil.Ingredients for pizza doughThe best part about this pizza dough is that the food processor does most of the work. I put all the flour, sugar, and yeast in the bowl of a food processor with a metal blade attached. Then I process it in about 5 seconds. While the machine is running, I slowly add water through the feed pipe. I process the mixture until the dough is just combined and there is no dry powder left. This takes about 10 seconds, I let the dough rest for about 10 minutes. After 10 seconds, I add olive oil and salt. I cook it for about 45 seconds, until it’s gooey and cleans all the edges of the bowl.Processed pizza dough in a food blenderNext, I took the dough out of the bowl of a food processor. I kneaded it briefly on lightly oiled parchment until it was smooth. This process takes about 1 minute. Then, we mold the dough into 3 tight round balls. Each is about 9 ounces each. I lightly oil each ball and place each piece in a Ziploc bag. Then I store the dough in the fridge for at least 24 hours and up to 3 days.Pizza dough in a ziploc bag in the fridge

Put the Star Pizza layers together

I started by rolling one of the pizza dough into a circle about 11 inches across a dough surface (Picture 1). Then I transferred the dough to a silicone baking sheet (Picture 2). Next, use a 10-inch cake pan to mark a 10-inch circle on the pizza dough. Then I spread about ¼ cup of pizza sauce over the dough, about 1 inch from the marked circle (Picture 3). Finally, I sprinkled some shredded mozzarella and freshly grated Parmesan on top. Expert advice from Chula

  • I like to shred my own mozzarella cheese. This is because shredded mozzarella has a coating on top to prevent lumps. This can affect both taste and texture.
  • Pizza dough, like most yeast doughs, tends to be soft and a bit difficult to roll at first. If your dough is still elastic, let it rest for about 10 minutes and try again.
  • You want to leave about an inch from the edge of the dough circle without both the pizza sauce and the cheese. This is because these can interfere with the clamping of the edges together later.
  • I like to use an inverted 10-inch cake pan to not only mark the circle, but also cut the pizza bread. However, you can also use large plates, bowls, etc.
  • I use a sharp knife to cut the strips. Generally, I start by making four equal cuts. Then I cut each of the four pieces into two equal pieces. Finally, I cut each of the eight pieces into two equal pieces for a total of 16 pieces.
  • Like regular pizza, the leftovers are amazing!
