How to make Ninja birthday cake
For this ninja cake, I made a chocolate cake with vanilla butter cream. Following are the steps to create this ninja birthday cake.
Yesterday:
- Prepare the cake drum – For this cake, I actually covered a cake plate with black fondant. I don’t recommend it though. Just buy one black cake drum if you make cakes or you can use white cake drum and cover the sides with black ribbon. Just make sure that whatever cake drum or board you’re using, it’s two inches larger than the cake you’re making.
- Making fondant cakes – Prepare fondant cake and ninja stars (more steps below). They will need at least 24 hours to dry.
- Bake your cake. I used my chocolate cake recipe and doubled it to make a 10-inch cake. Mine cake and white cake 8 inch cake recipe so if you need something bigger you can double it. You’ll have some leftover dough for cupcakes if you’d like. To keep them fresh, simply wrap them in cling film, then aluminum foil and place them in the freezer. It will keep fresh for the next day.
- Make fog. Make one to two batches vanilla buttercream. If you’re making an 8-inch pie, you only need one batch. If you’re making a 10-inch pie, make two batches.
Party founding date:
- Coat – Line your cakes and cover with an extra layer of frosting between each layer. Use one compensating spoon, apply a thin layer of frost to the sides and top. Smooth the sides with a Smoother freezing. Place the cake in the fridge for about ten minutes.
- The final coating – Apply a final coat of frosting to the top and sides of the cake and smooth the coating.
- Fondant decorations – Add ninja topper, ninja star, black border and number to the cake.
How to make the Ninja love throwing stars
These are the steps I used to create the stars with fondant:
- Print the star pattern (you can use google images or create your own). You can also use a star cookie cutter.
- Roll your fondant to a thickness of 1/4 inch
- Cut out a star shape out of fondant
- Take a large icing tip to cut off the center part. I used the end of a 1 million tips.
- Use the same time to cut off the part at the base of each point. Keep going around the star until all the bases are cut.
- Painted with edible silver paint. I use this silver dust mix with a few drops of alcohol (vodka) and beat with food safe brush.
- Place on parchment paper and let them dry.
On the day of the party, the ninja stars will have a hard time sticking their heads in the buttercream cake. For a complete tutorial on how to make ninja stars, check out this lesson.

To create them, I just Googled a ninja image and printed it to size. You can also try searching for “ninja stencil” or “ninja cartoon” to find the one you like best. ninja pictures. For the anime ninja topper I used this ninja images.Print the image onto paper and roll the fondant thin (1/4″). Use the image as a stencil and cut the fondant with a sharp knife. I used red fondant for the belt and white fondant for the faces of the cartoon ninjas, before they dried, carefully inserting toothpicks into each foot. Place it on parchment and then let it dry for a few hours or overnight. Then the day of the party, you can insert them into the cake.I hope you have fun making this cake. It’s really fun to make and the ninja buns are so much easier to make than I thought. I love the realistic looking ninja stars on the cake. I think it’s fun that the design is really simple but effective. If you make this cake, I’d love to see your creations! Note: For three 10-inch round cakes, make sure to double this recipe.
