How To Make A Dragon Scale Dice Bag

Have you made a Game of Thrones withdrawal? The dice keep falling out of your pocket? Fear not because we’ve come to the rescue with a bag of Game of Thrones dice. This pattern, originally inspired by Cindy de Vries’ Ravelry pattern, has been adapted to close the holes near the bottom of the bag commonly found in use. This is a simple pattern and the only stitches you need to know how to make. are chain hooks (ch), half double hooks (hdc), double hooks (dc ) and one hook (ss). It looks very impressive but it is extremely beginner-friendly. Use a hook one or two sizes smaller than the yarn you’re using suggests; This one from Lion’s Brand Vanna’s Choice (in Cranberry) has a J hook on the packaging for measuring, but I used a G hook so the eggs are denser and therefore sturdier and less likely to drop the dice .The sample is below, but check out the gallery at the bottom of the post for visual steps.

Bottom of the bag

The bottom of the bag is made in a circle, and starts with the magic ring (illustrated below). In addition to being a single ring to rule them all, it also ensures there are no gaps in the bottom of your bag and the bottom of the bag is nice and snug. . Drag the tail of your creation to close the loop. Use an ss to bind the last dc to the first dc (chain) and end the round. Work 2 dc into the next stitch and every subsequent stitch until you complete the loop. End the round with ss to link the last dc to the first dc. (24 stitches) Row 3: Chain 2. Work 2 dc on the next stitch and one stitch on the next stitch. Repeat the 2 dc, 1 dc increments in each subsequent pair of stitches until you have completed the round. Ends with an ss. (36 stitches) Row 4: Chain 2. Work 1 dc into the same stitch as the chain. Work an hdc into each of the next 2 stitches. Work 2 dc into the back seam (so in 3 stitches you will have hdc, hdc and 2 dc). Repeat those 3 stitch patterns until you complete the row. End the round with ss. (48 stitches)

Weigh the bottom row

The bottom row is a modified alligator stitch where you will work 5 dc around each dc “pair of posts” (2 dc posts separated by 2 hdcs). The HDc fills in the gaps around the bend of the bag which, in the original pattern, tended to let the dice fall out due to the nature of the alligator stitch. Have a look at the library for a clearer illustration of creating the scales using dc post pairs and working 10 dc around them. Method 5: Chain 2 (counts as your first dc). Work horizontally around one of the dc posts (where there are 2 dcs in the same stitch just below the chain) work 4 dcs around that post. Ch 1, and then work 5 DC around the other post pair of posts. Congratulations! You have created your first scale. Skip 6 stitches (2 hdc, 2 dc, 2 hdc) and start by working 5 dc horizontally around the next dc. Ch 1. Machining 5 dc horizontally into the other dc post of the pair of cards. Repeat around the bottom row (you will make a total of 6 scales for the row).

Row platform size

The next row is the foundation row for the next ladders, on which you will build the next row of ladders. The scale is made in 2 layers and you will repeat this row and the scale row until you have completed the pattern. On this row and every other next row the post pairs are not 2 hdcs apart but a big gap. Further reading: how to test memory on windows xp Question 6: String 2. Work 2 dcs in the space between the 2 pairs of cards in the row below. Continue working 2 dc in the middle of the scale and the dcs contact pair in the row below. SS to end the round. (24 stitches)

Now that you have a foundation row to build on, you’ll work the sequence into every other dc post pair. Question 7: Chain 2. Work 4 dcs horizontally into the first dc row of the pairs below. Chain. Chain 1. Work 5 dcs horizontally around the 2nd dc of the post pair. Skip the next pair of cards and work 5 dcs into the first dc of the next pair, ch 1 and 5 dcs horizontally around the 2nd pair of cards. Repeat until you have 8 scales on the row.

Complete the bag

Repeat rows 6 & 7 until the bag reaches full height. End. You can use some strung yarn as a drawstring (knit the string through the backing pairs to close the top) or any rope/ribbon you want.
