Video How to make a grape seed with construction paperIt’s the day before Turkey Day, and I can almost guarantee that there will be an extra trip to the grocery store to buy something. A lot of the prep and cooking is focused on preparing a Thanksgiving meal. It was an overall day filled with lots of families, lots of food and hopefully lots of good memories. We are lucky enough to spend this Thanksgiving with some of our closest family members. Four kids and five adults make for a busy and enriching day! And I know this day will also be a battle of wits between food preparation and the kids. That was the inspiration for this craft. I say, let the girls set the table this year and give them a crafty project to do it. Filled with a sweet treat for all ages. I raided my niece’s craft center to find things most girls probably have at their disposal. She loves to fold origami, and the orange and brown origami sheets are perfect materials for me to create things like cabbage.

To make it faster, I can cut 4 pieces of origami paper at once. An orange piece and a brown piece make up a woven fabric. You’ll know you’ve stacked enough strips when it’s the same width as one of the other colored bands. With a piece of tape, longer than all the strips put together, glue them down into place on the rug at the top. With a strip of paper of the opposite color, start alternating the strips and push all the way to the top. Weave the second strip in the opposite direction of top/bottom as the previous strip. Continue weaving and pushing up so that all the strips are as close together as possible until you reach the end of the square. With the second long piece of tape, you also secure the bottom of the weave to the rug. Pull both pieces of tape off the mat and the woven square should come with it. Turn it over and wrap the tape over the edge to secure. Cut off the ends of the tape hanging over the woven square, finish by gluing the remaining two edges and wrapping the edges together. Once all of your corn kernels have been created, you can move on to styling and filling your cones with paper to make a beautiful Fall party table for your Thanksgiving.corn steps collageTo finish off the finishing touches, I folded a large napkin into quarters and also shaped it into a cone and placed it in the center of the woven paper cone. I put it on top of the plate and then filled it with my candied fruit. You can certainly fill your void with different dishes. What about grapes, Hershey’s® kiss, candy corn, etc.?
