Cat Collar Hardware Kit (I ordered mine from Creative Designworks, LLC)
Secession Key
Slide Lock
Split ring
Bell
Strong craft glue
Glue Iron on Hem, 3/8″
Split ring, 9mm (optional)
Ribbon, 3/8, in your favorite collar color
Grosgrain ribbon, 3/8
Iron
Clip Binder
Start:
Measure and cut 16 inches of ribbon, grosgrain ribbon, and adhesive trim. I used grosgrain ribbon because the material is a bit thicker and adds some sturdiness to the collar
Turn your iron on the lowest steam setting or as stated on the back of the non-stick rim
While the iron is heating up, sandwich the hem between the two pieces of ribbon, making sure that all three are aligned.
Iron the length of the ribbon. Make sure you don’t pull on the iron, which can stretch or distort the ribbon. Hold the iron in place for a few seconds, then move on to the next section.
After the ribbon cools, thread the other end of the ribbon through the slide lock. Fold and glue ~1/4″ of the ribbon (so the edges don’t fray). Add glue to 1 of the end of the ribbon and fold. Hold in place with an adhesive clip.
With the grosgrain ribbon facing up, threaded over the female end of the secession, coming from below. Make sure that when the collar buckles are joined together, they curl properly. Thread the ribbon over the nearest end of the slide, over and over to the other side.
Next, you can either thread the ribbon through the split ring that comes with the kit, or take one 9mm split and attach it to the other buckle. (I use a 9mm split because my cat can use the larger collar to take off the collar when not satisfied.)
Again, thread the ribbon through the other lock, this time coming from the top, and hold the split bangle next to the lock. Finish the collar the same way as before: Fold and glue ~1/4″ of the ribbon (so the edges don’t fray). Add glue to the 1.5 inch of the end of the ribbon and fold it over. Hold in place with an adhesive clip.
Finally, let your freshly made cat collar dry overnight
