Window decoration with towels can be as simple or elaborate as you like. If other treatments like window blinds are unappealing use scarves. Start with simple designs and then, once you understand it, get as creative as you can. With the right hardware and a little patience, you should be able to set up stunning scarve designs for your windows. There are many ways to hang window scarves. The method you choose will depend on your personal style, your window type, and the hardware you have available.
Things you will need
- Lanyard
- Window bar
- Hangers
- screw
- Drill
- Fabric for hanging
- Pen and paper
Curtain rod method
Using a curtain rod is the simplest way to decorate a window with a scarf.
Step 1: Mark where you want the towel ends to fall
Measure the length of the curtain rod then add about 75cm on each side. Use a pen to mark the 75cm position on both sides of the rod to hang the top of the fabric. Ideally, the fabric should hang vertically or slightly beyond the outer edges of the window frame.
Step 2: Measure your window width
Place the end of the tape measure on the left outer side of the window frame and drag it over the right outer side of the frame. Please note the width measurement. For a graceful look, the scarf should be large enough to cover the entire width of the window.
Step 3: Calculate the required fabric length

To determine how much fabric you need to buy, double the window width measurement you obtained earlier, then add this to the measurement you decided on in step 1 above. For example, if your window is 120cm wide and you choose to hang fabric 75cm each side, the length of fabric you need to buy is 390cm i.e. (12cmx2) + (75cmx2)
Step 4: Spread the fabric on the bar
Hold the towel in a horizontal position with both hands. Let both ends of the fabric hang vertically from your left and right hands. Let the center of the fabric dip down in an elegant u position while the end hangs along the sides of the window. Take one of the hanging sides and roll it once over the rod to secure it in place. Do the same with the other hanging side. Also, stick pins in the corners to keep the scarf in your desired position.
Hooking method
No sticks? No probs. The hook can replace the curtain rod easily. You can buy all of these metal and decorative hooks at your local decor store. A little elbow grease may be required to mount the hooks to the wall. Be sure to remove existing treatments like window blinds first before installing hooks to hang your frills.
Step 1: Determine the proper location for the hooks
Measure 5 cm above the window frame on each side. Measure 7cm from the corner of the frame to each side. Mark these points. In addition to marking two hooks in the two corners, you can also mark a third in the center just above the window frame.
Step 2: Fix the hooks in place

Step 3: Measure the length and width of the window
Place one end of the tape measure at the top of the window frame or the end of the side hook and pull it down to the position you want with the hanging sides of the scarf. Measure the width of the window starting from the left hook to the right hook. Note both length and width measurements.
Step 4: Determine the correct fabric size
Duplicate the width measurement and add it to the length measurement you obtained earlier for each side. This will help you buy the right size fabric for the scarf. For example, if the window width is 120cm and you want the edges to hang at 30cm, you will need to buy fabric that measures 300cm i.e. (120cmx2) + (30×2).
Step 5: Put the scarf on the hook
Take one end of the fabric and place it on the left hook, leaving a portion of the fabric hanging on the side. Thread the other end of the fabric onto the right hook and let it hang along the edge of the window frame. This will give you a simple u-shaped design, for a more elegant design follow the same steps. However, instead of letting the center dip down in a u-shape, drape it over the center hook. This will create two graceful u-shapes. Add more hooks for a more dramatic scallop shape, which pairs well with larger windows. Use a cable tie or decorative clip to secure the scarf in place.
Inference
A scarf combines simplicity with sophistication and is a perfect way for you to show your love. Whether you use the stick or crochet method or opt for a layered design, be sure to buy enough fabric to achieve that enviable cascading effect. Have you tried other window towel hanging methods?
