How To Get To Las Pozas Mexico
A stroll in Edward James’ surreal garden, Las Pozas, makes you feel like you’re in a completely different world. A world where fantasies and fantasies come to life. We felt like true explorers, walking through a jungle, not knowing what we would see next or where we would end up exploring. It’s a place we recommend everyone, it’s a hidden gem deep in the Mexican mountains. Definitely one on the bucket list!
History of Las Pozas
Contents
Las Pozas was created by English poet Edward James. He moved to Xilitla, where he began to grow strange plants. But in 1962, when frost and blizzard destroyed all of his orchid gardens, he decided to make something permanent that weather could not destroy. He wanted to create his version of ‘Garden of Eden’ with giant concrete sculptures. It took him 20 years from 1949 until his death in 1984, to design and build the concrete structures resembling floral elements, at a cost of more than $5 million. However, most of the sculptures are still unfinished. There is also a beautiful waterfall.

When to go
Don’t go to Las Pozas during Mexican holidays. The line to get inside can be up to three hours during high season. Also try not to go on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We went on a Friday morning during low season and it was quite crowded at the entrance. The saddest part: when crowded, you can’t get to the top of the masterpiece ‘Bamboo Palace’. Came and stayed at Casa Caracol it was only a five minute walk from there to the garden and it was amazing! It’s basic, but their tipi dorm rooms are lovely.
