We will also point out where to find valuable items along the way, such as the Magic Clutch Ring, and Smough’s Great Hammer. To reach Irithyll of the Boreal Valley, players must first defeat High Lord Wolnir just beyond the bridge in the Catacombs of Carthus. Upon completing this boss battle, a doorway will open to grant access to the Irithyll of the Boreal Valley Bonfire.Reading: how to get to irithyll of the boreal valleyDown the stairs from the bonfire is a large bridge leading to Irithyll. However, you will need a special doll in order to pass through the magic barrier ahead. This item is acquired upon defeating the Deacons of the Deep in the Cathedral of the Deep. Head over to our Cathedral of the Deep Walkthrough if you need help completing this area.Pass beneath the archway and step out onto the bridge. As you approach the center of the bridge, a massive Sulyvahn’s Beast will ambush you from behind. You can watch the beast appear by swinging the camera view around to see behind your character. This creature has huge jaws and a powerful bite that can inflict a lot of damage. Roll and dodge to avoid the beast’s mouth as much as possible. The creature will also make quick turns to snap at you, so stay away from its sides. Try to get behind the beast in order to attack it from the back. When the beast is defeated, it’s gone for good, and will drop the Pontiff’s Right Eye Ring for your efforts. Collect the ring and continue across the bridge. After crossing the bridge into Irithyll, light the Central Irithyll Bonfire just ahead of the bridge. Snag the Homeward Bone off of the left corpse, then collect the Rime-Blue Moss Clump beside the bonfire. Look for a small grass section to the right to obtain a Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier. Near the back side of the altar near the bonfire, pillage a corpse to receive a Soul of a Weary Warrior. If you have spoken with Sirris of the Sunless Realms prior to this point and have not yet joined Rosaria’s covenant, Sirris will request your help with an objective along the bridge. Use an Ember, then search the ground along the bridge for a summon sign from Sirris. It should be near the front of the bridge, just after the entryway.Touch the summon sign to assist Sirris in a battle against a Dark Spirit named Creighton the Wanderer. The fight shouldn’t be too difficult if you are properly leveled. However, if Sirris dies during the fight you will be sent back to your world and will need to start the battle over again. Upon defeating Creighton, head back to Firelink Shrine at your leisure and speak with Sirris along the stairs. She will reward you with a Blessed Mail Breaker weapon and the Silvercat Ring, which helps prevent fall damage.Dark Souls 3 Silvercat RingDefeating Creighton on the bridge causes him to invade you once more as you progress into Irithyll later on. Defeat him when he invades you, then return to the main bridge to collect Creighton’s Steel Mask, Mirrah Chain Mail, Mirrah Chain Gloves, and Mirrah Chain Leggings from an item corpse. Many of the enemies in this region will inflict frost damage. Before heading into Irithyll, be sure to equip armor that has decent frost resistance in order to mitigate frost build-up and prevent the onset of Frostbite. From the Central Irithyll Bonfire, continue up the stairs leading away from the bonfire. Be careful, as several Pontiff Knights patrol this staircase. These enemies move very fast, and can inflict frost damage with their wide-sweeping swings. They will also conjure a magic attack that hones in on your location. Try to avoid fighting more than one Pontiff Knight at a time so that you don’t get overwhelmed.Dark Souls 3 Irithyll 01Defeat the first Pontiff Knight on the stairs, then curve around to collect the Soul of a Weary Warrior from the corpse on the railing to the left. Don’t worry about the strange cries nearby. The noise comes from beyond a locked gate that we will help you access later. Continue up the stairs, eliminating a second Pontiff Knight along the way. Watch out on the right, as another Pontiff Knight will attack from the side stairs. Defeat the enemy, then grab a Large Titanite Shard at the end of the stairs on the right. At the top of the next set of stairs, you’ll reach a landing with several Irithyllian Slaves gathered around a fountain, along with a Burning Stake Witch off to the left. The slaves themselves aren’t much trouble. Although some of these slaves can cast ranged magic and turn invisible, they are generally rather clumsy and can be easily eliminated. However, they have strength in numbers and can still inflict frost damage, so try not to be overconfident. The Burning Stake Witch is a much more difficult foe. This enemy inflicts a powerful ranged fire attack that can shoot up from underground wherever you’re standing, making this attack somewhat difficult to avoid. They will also shoot a trail of fire toward you that tracks your movements. Be prepared to dodge once you aggro these enemies. The Burning Stake Witch can reach you from a long distance, so try to attack them at close range. This particular enemy will pass around the altar where the slaves are standing, so try to clear out the slaves ahead of time to prevent having to fight them while dealing with the Stake Witch.Dark Souls 3 Irithyll 02After clearing the area, go back to collect a Budding Green Blossom and a Soul of a Nameless Soldier near the fountain. Proceed forward along the path, and watch out for another Burning Stake Witch on an upper platform to the right. Quickly run up the right stairs leading to the witch to dispatch this enemy. Grab the Rime-Blue Moss Clumps from the corpse on the left, then continue up the main path where you will encounter several more Pontiff Knights.Along the path, go up a small set of stairs on the left. Quickly attack the Crystal Lizard to obtain a Twinkling Titanite. With your back to the stairs, turn to the right and attack the right section of railing to reveal a hidden staircase. As you descend these stairs, watch out for another Pontiff Knight in the corner to the left of the stairs below. Grab the Large Titanite Shard, then proceed down the next set of stairs.Dark Souls 3 Irithyll 03The large Evangelist below is the one who was making strange noises earlier. Defeat the sorceress to obtain the Dorhys’ Gnawing spell, then pillage the Witchtree Branch collectible nearby. Open the locked gate to find yourself back at the path leading away from the Central Irithyll Bonfire. Make your way up the path once more to reach where you left off at the hidden staircase earlier. This time, proceed forward along the main path. Look for a corpse up ahead to the left to find a Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier.Ahead are three more enemies near an archway. The boss chamber is ahead as well, but you will need to unlock a shortcut in order to access this area. Don’t go through the archway just yet. Instead, pass around to the left and follow the path to obtain a Large Titanite Shard beside the stairs. Curve to the left and continue up the next set of stairs. Proceed into the church ahead to ignite the Church of Yorshka Bonfire.Dark Souls 3 Irithyll Proof of a ConcordRead more: how to build a mountain bike from scratchIf you have kept up with the storyline for Anri of Astora, Anri will be waiting beside the bonfire. Speak to Anri to obtain the Ring of the Evil Eye, as well as the Quiet Resolve gesture. On the far end of the room, pillage the corpse to obtain the Proof of a Concord Kept. Check out our guide on all Covenants and rewards to find out more about this Covenant item.Investigate the statues in the corner beside the entrance, and strike the statue in the corner to discover a disguised Pilgrim NPC. This NPC is involved in Anri’s storyline. You can either kill this NPC, or let them live. However, keep in mind that your choice will determine Anri’s fate and can impact the type of ending you can receive. Review our guide on How to Get the Best Ending in Dark Souls 3 before deciding what to do with this character.Dark Souls 3 Ring of the Evil Eye AnriReturn to the path you entered from, and follow the path to the left of the stairs leading around the building. Grab the Soul of a Weary Warrior from the slumped corpse nearby, and try not to get the Witch’s attention. Ignore the locked gate for now, as you must open it from the other side. Engage the enemies if you wish, but we recommend just dealing with the nearby Pontiff Knight.Afterward, move to collect the Lightning Gem in front of the altar. There’s another collectible on a higher platform that you can’t reach yet. Head to the right of the altar and take a swing at the wall to reveal a hidden ledge. Pillage the corpse along the broken railing to obtain a Magic Clutch Ring. There’s not much left to do here at the moment, so return to the Church of Yorshka and rest if needed.Dark Souls 3 Magic Clutch Ring Irithyll

Onward to the Distant Manor

Inside the Church of Yorshka, head through the archway on the side of the room and proceed downstairs. At the base of the stairs, turn right to find an alcove that contains a Roster of Knights. This item has to do with certain covenant activities. Continue through the archway and head outside to the graveyard.Several transparent slaves are found lingering amongst the tombstones. Look for small pairs of floating white eyes to spot the nearly invisible slaves. As you approach the cliff, watch out for two slaves that will ambush you from behind. Take out the enemies, then collect the Fading Soul from the cliffside corpse.Dark Souls 3 Irithyll 04If you are embered, expect Creighton the Wanderer to invade you as you head up the hill. Defeating him rewards you with a Dragonslayer’s Axe. Proceed up the hill, and pillage the corpse behind the tree to obtain another Fading Soul. Continue uphill to the right and defeat the crouched red-eyed enemy near the larger tombstone. Pick up the Homeward Bones in front of the tombstone, and an Undead Bone Shard behind it.Go back toward the church, and this time head down the path to the right just before the church archway. Continue down the stairs, and prepare to fight several undead hounds and another transparent slave. These hounds seem to be a more aggressive variety, so keep your guard up and eliminate them quickly to avoid being overwhelmed. After dealing with the enemies, pillage the corpses nearby to obtain several Kukri and a Rusted Gold Coin.Continue along the path and head through the archway down into the basement. It’s dark down here, so you may need a torch. There’s a large group of slaves lingering in the dank lower level. You’ll see their floating eyes huddled together. Nothing that a few arrows or ranged magic attacks can’t handle. Eliminate the slaves how you wish, just make sure you take down every one to avoid problems later.Dark Souls 3 Irithyll 05Once you’ve cleared out the clumsy enemies from the basement, go over to the side and collect the Blue Bug Pellets. Climb the nearby ladder to reach the rafters, and watch out for more slaves. Carefully walk along the beams to reach a Shriving Stone. Cross over the beams and drop down to a platform that contains a chest. No Mimic here. Open the chest to obtain Yorshka’s Spear.Make your way back to the ground level and exit through the far doorway. You’ll encounter another pair of slaves along the staircase ahead. Go down the first set of stairs and curve to the right just before the next set of stairs. Head over to the alcove on the right and attack the wall to reveal a Crystal Lizard, who drops a Twinkling Titanite when killed. Obtain a Blood Gem from the corpse at the end of the path after dispatching the random shaman and a few more slaves. The lower waterway contains several Sewer Centipedes. Look over the edge from where you found the Blood Gem to see one of these creatures down below. Their appearance is pretty creepy at first. Stick to the high ground along the upper ledge and take out this first Sewer Centipede from a distance. Watch out for its poison spit. When the critter is gone, go down the stairs and grab the Green Blossoms and Ring of Sacrifice nearby.Dark Souls 3 Irithyll 06Pass beneath the bridge to progress further into the outer waterway. On the far side of the marsh, you can collect a Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier on the small island. Near the rock wall on the right are two more Sewer Centipedes. Defeat them if you wish, then continue further to the right to collect the Great Heal miracle spell from the corpse of a dead grub-man.There is an archway that emits a green hue about halfway down the waterway. This is where you will need to go to eventually reach the boss. However, there is another bonfire nearby that we are going to have you visit first. Grab the Green Blossoms beside the archway, then continue toward the pointed archway at the far end of the marsh.Dark Souls 3 Irithyll 07Enter the stone structure on the far side of the waterway. Go down the steps to light the Distant Manor Bonfire. The next set of stairs leads to another few Irithyllian Slaves at the bottom. Beyond them is a Pontiff Knight to the left, and a Burning Stake Witch over to the right. There are several more slaves further to the right of the witch. Kill the enemies, and explore the dark area to find a Large Titanite Shard. From the staircase, you can drop down to find a Rusted Gold Coin, but will incur a bit of damage from the fall.Dark Souls 3 Irithyll 08The door to the left of where the witch once stood leads to an outer path. As you head down the path, you will be invaded by Alva, Seeker of the Spurned at the halfway point. Defeat the AI Dark Spirit to obtain the Murakumo weapon.Continue through the doorway where the invader spawned from, and head downstairs to discover Irithyll Dungeon. Light the Irithyll Dungeon Bonfire, then head back up to the waterway from earlier. We will delve into Irithyll Dungeon in a separate walkthrough, but you are free to explore this area if you wish.

Return to the archway with the green hue in the waterway that we pointed out earlier. As you enter the archway, you’ll encounter multiple Sewer Centipedes spread throughout the sewer tunnel. Try to take them on one at a time if possible, and remember to dodge their poison spit and vicious grab attacks. There are only Dung Pies on the left and right corpses. Proceed toward the staircase on the far wall opposite the archway entrance.Dark Souls 3 Irithyll Excrement AshesJust before the stairs, pillage the corpse behind the doorway the left to obtain Excrement-Covered Ashes. Speak with him and continue the conversation to receive another Siegbrau, as well as an Emit Light miracle spell. Speak with him one more time after he falls asleep in order to obtain your own Sleep gesture.Dark Souls 3 Irithyll Siegward SiegbrauTo the right is a pot of Estus Soup. There are several tough enemies ahead, so you may want to save this for later if you get hurt. Head up the stairs beside the kitchen and pass through the small room. Go up the stairs to reach a large open gallery. The walkway above contains a large Knight with a ranged weapon. He will shoot you from above as you pass through the gallery, so be ready to dodge his arrows. Near the painting at the far side, there is another Knight. Lure him through the doorway around the corner to avoid getting shot at while fighting. Breaking the large vases in this area causes them to release frost damage that can give you frostbite, so try not to smash any vases if possible. The stairwell to the left of the Gwynevere painting leads to the Knight shooting from the balcony, as well as another Knight at the end of the path. Defeat the armored foes, then curve around the balcony to find three chests in a row. Don’t worry, none of them are Mimics. Open the chests to receive Divine Blessing, the Leo Ring, and Smough’s Great Hammer.Dark Souls 3 Leo RingHead back down to the small room behind the painting, and proceed out the back door. Go up the left staircase outside, and collect the Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier at the base of the tree. As you head up the stairs, be prepared to fight several undead Hounds and two more sorcerer slaves. Watch out for the Hound that hides behind the large altar at the top.Past the altar is a pointed archway on the left with an elevator inside. Before continuing up the right staircase, step on the elevator and ride the lift upward. Open the locked gate when you reach the top. This creates a shortcut back to the Church of Yorshka Bonfire.Dark Souls 3 Irithyll 09Ride the elevator back down to the bottom. Just before the staircase, pillage the corpse to the left to acquire a Large Titanite Shard. Continue up the stairs to reach a room full of transparent slaves. You can bypass the room by dropping down onto the platform to the left of the doorway. This takes you to a ladder that leads to the upper balcony of the room. Be sure to grab another Large Titanite Shard from the corpse before climbing up. If you go through the first floor of the room, you can acquire some Blue Bug Pellets after defeating the group of slaves.Dark Souls 3 Irithyll 10Exit through the balcony doorway at the top. Hang a left just before the staircase and loot a corpse to obtain a Soul of a Weary Warrior. Proceed up the long staircase. At the top of the stairs you’ll find a pair of Pontiff Knights guarding the entrance to the boss chamber. Fight off the enemies, but don’t go through the boss fog just yet.Head down the staircase on the opposite end. At the bottom of the stairs are two more Irithyllian slaves, as well as an Ember on a corpse. Open the gate at the base of the stairs to create yet another shortcut to the Church of Yorshka bonfire. This is a more direct route to the boss chamber from the bonfire, making future travels a bit easier.Dark Souls 3 Irithyll 11Head back up the stairs toward the boss. Stand on the center platform that overlooks the small courtyard. Drop down onto the altar below to obtain the Ring of the Sun’s First Born. This was the unreachable collectible near the illusory wall from earlier. Loop back around to the shortcut you just created to return to the boss chamber at the top of the stairs.Dark Souls 3 Ring of the Suns First Born

Boss Battle: Defeat Pontiff Sulyvahn

Upon unlocking a couple shortcuts from the Church of Yorshka, you are now able to access the boss battle against Pontiff Sulyvahn. This is a rather tough encounter, so we recommend using an Ember and summoning help from an AI companion or another player. On the balcony outside the boss room, there are two AI summon signs available: one for Anri of Astora, and another for Londor Pale Shade. Enter the large cathedral to begin the boss encounter when ready.Pontiff Sulyvahn uses two signature weapons. One is a flaming sword, and the other is imbued with a purple dark magic. His long limbs allow for wide sweeping attacks that have a long range. The Pontiff will perform various attacks that include circular swings that reach a wide radius around his body, making it difficult to get in close enough to attack without getting hit.His attacks are also somewhat unpredictable. However, he will pause very briefly before initiating an attack, so use that as a cue to dodge or roll behind him when possible. If you have summoned companions, allow them to distract the Pontiff while you move in to deal damage. You can get in at least a couple of strikes in between his attacks, depending on the speed of your weapon. When Pontiff Sulyvahn nearly reaches half health, he will kneel for a moment and spawn wings. If you try to attack during this transformation, watch out for the follow up explosion that he performs afterward. If you aren’t already close enough to the Pontiff once he kneels, just wait for him to do his thing and plan your next attack instead. At this point, Pontiff Sulyvahn will throw in additional ranged attacks along with his typical attack pattern. He will fire either a straight beam or a horizontal projectile. Dodge away from the straight attacks, and roll forward into the horizontal one. The timing can be tricky, but you can avoid taking damage if you roll accordingly. If you see him leap into the air, be prepared to dodge an incoming aerial strike. If he lingers in the air for a moment, it means he is tracking your location and will dive directly toward you. Watch his movements carefully to predict his attacks and move accordingly.Pontiff Sulyvahn will also pause and point his dark magic sword straight into the air. This causes him to spawn a winged phantom clone of himself. Fighting two Pontiffs is much harder than dealing with just one. Try to cut down the winged apparition as quickly as possible so that you can go back to dealing damage to the actual Pontiff. The phantom doesn’t have much health, but can still inflict significant damage and be an overall annoyance.Defeating Pontiff Sulyvahn rewards you with the Soul of Pontiff Sulyvahn, which can be taken to Ludleth for transposition. Ignite the Pontiff Sulyvahn Bonfire near the center of the cathedral, and be sure to explore the church for other collectible items on the upper balcony. From here, you can proceed forward out the far door to continue towards Anor Londo, or you can return to the Distant Manor Bonfire and begin exploring Irithyll Dungeon.
