For many aspiring young people, over 700 in math is a holy grail of grades: you hear it’s achievable but actually achieving it seems impossible. Dear friend: fear not! The holy grail has been found and there are specific steps that can be taken to help you get above 700 on the math section of the SAT. problem and get there, but for those who are really trying to SOLVE the math part of the SAT, you can’t skip the questions. This is especially true for difficult problems. The secret to difficult problems is to immediately forget that they are supposed to be difficult and just WORK. This doesn’t mean that you should assume the problem is easier than it is and choose an answer that is too simple, but it does mean that you have the skills to approach a problem and DO it! There are exactly 128 blocks that don’t touch any tin foil on any of their sides. If the width of these 128 cubes is twice the length and twice the height, what is the measure of the width of the prism covered with foil? This problem is finally there for a reason. You should have done everything else already, so all you need to focus on is this problem. Don’t worry about the time at this point. We also know that 128 cubes are completely covered by other cubes so that none of their faces touch the outside. This means that there is essentially a larger prism that completely covers a smaller prism. It’s like when you used to play with blocks (I know you did!) And you would place a block completely within other blocks to make an exact replica just bigger. So we have a rectangular prism measuring 128 inches.
