How To Do Fondant Ruffles On A Cake

How to make soft sponge cake on cakeToday I finally share How to Make Fondant Ruffles on a Cake! I’ve been promising this tutorial for months and have actually photographed how to ruffle on two different cakes (and even a video)… but the more pressing things always hold me back. It took me hours to edit many of these photos… that’s another reason this tutorial is so slow! Anyway… but now it’s done – or at least this one! My son is helping me with video editing and I’ve included two short videos – I’ll add more when they’re done, but for now I hope the photos help you!How to make sponge cake on cake 01Here’s what you need:

  • Fondant (my fluff comes in different shades of pink, but you can use just one color or multiple colors – it’s up to you!)
  • Roller Pins
  • Ribbon Cutting Machine
  • Pizza or cake
  • Ball Tool
  • Foam mattress
  • Glue sugar
  • Paint brush (food use only)
  • Corn flour
  • Cake covered with fondant

Now let’s get started!Step 1:Take a fondant and roll it into a long strip. I don’t have measurements, but you want it pretty slim! Then, using a ribbon cutter*, cut the strips – for this cake they are about 1.5 inches wide. You can make them narrower or wider, but that’s a pretty average width that should fit most designs. they are more difficult to handle. The folds are irregular so it’s easy to hide the seams! *Note: if you don’t have a ribbon cutter you can also do this with a pastry and a ruler, but my ribbon cutter is an invaluable tool and I highly recommend getting one like like this. You can adjust the width from very narrow to full width, plus it comes with a stitching wheel and wavy edges! How to make sponge cake on cake 03Step 2:Separate a strip of fondant and cover with some cornstarch (not pictured). Slide your foam pad under one end of the strip and you’re ready to ruffle it.How to make sponge cake on cake 04Read more: How to clean thermal paste from cpuStep 3:Now, this is where the video will come in handy (scroll down below the two photos to find it).… you want to use the shadow tool to apply pressure to one edge of the ribbon, roll it down the fondant layer and pull away – make it thinner and it will also start to roll. In doing this, you will move the fondant strip as quickly as I need and work from one end to the other. How to make sponge cake on cake 05How to make sponge cake on cake 06Here is a short video demonstration thanks to my son Joshua (his blog is topqa.info)!Step 4:To glue the ruffles onto the cake, you’ll start at the top (if the ruffles are facing up) and paint some sugar glue on the cake. I usually do about an inch of glue all the way.How to make sponge cake on cake 07Step 5:Pick up your ruffled ribbons and start attaching it to the cake. Take care that the edges are not ruffled and glue the remaining flat part of the ribbon to the cake. I like to press it in firmly in small sections – sometimes even adding small folds to give it more dimension. How to make sponge cake on cake 08How to make fondant cake on cake 09How to make soft sponge cake on 10 . cakeStep 6:Read more: how to get diablo 3’s wirt pins Go all the way – add extra ribbon clips if needed. You can see on the left edge of this cake where I have a seam. I just clip the top of the ruffle together a little bit and it blends in!How to make sponge cake on cake 11Step 7:Move down about half an inch below the first ruffle and repeat the steps. I want a good overlap! How to make sponge cake on 12 . cakeWash, wash, repeat… haha! Here’s a short video of me attaching some ruffles: As I added more pink to the fondant for darker shades, the fondant got a little soft, so I used a toothpick to hold the ruffles up. until they dry. small. You can do this for any/all fondant that the ruffles don’t hold well and just let them dry for a few hours or overnight! How to make soft sponge cake on 15 . cakeAfter you remove them, the layers of fur will sag a little to cover the holes, or you can make little dots with buttercream to cover them! How to make sponge cake on cake 14And that’s it! Easy as pie! I have a few other things I do to get a different “look” with my shaggy coats and I hope to receive those shares soon! How to make soft sponge cake on cakeI also have a tutorial on how to make gum here! This cake is a 6-inch and 8-inch round vanilla cake with vanilla icing and frosting and homemade marshmallow fondant.Do you have any questions about how to ruffle fondant on a cake?
