How To Deal With Self Righteous People

Video How to Deal with Self-righteous People: Sire is a Christian writer and the author of several books. She writes about the Christian lifestyle, relationships, and other related topics.Tom and Mary seem to be perfect Christians. They go to church every Sunday and generously set the plate of offerings. They study the Bible every day and can read verses appropriate for any occasion. They film long eloquent prayers during the public vigils they attend regularly. Their children are very respectful and well behaved. Mother and Mary do their jobs diligently and honestly in all their dealings. If someone needs help moving, they are the first person on the doorstep. The way Tom and Mary live their lives shows that they have high moral standards – they don’t swear and they dress casually. Their children are obedient, well-mannered, putting a sinner like me to shame for their loyalty and holiness. I try my best to live a Christian life, but it’s hard for me not to feel low and ashamed for not being on their level. However, I chose to follow the Bible’s direction not to compare myself to others (2 Corinthians 10:2) and strive to live my life according to Biblical principles. Only God can see what’s in a man’s heart. Some people may use self-righteousness to cover up their bigotry and prejudice against others. The attitudes and actions of the Pharisees showed some signs of being self-righteous and dangerous to my mental health.

Signs that people are self-righteous

Black and white thinking

Egotistical people see life in black and white, and woe to anyone who tries to interfere with the gray patches in their worldview. The Pharisees of Jesus’ day fit this category. They rigidly keep their own version of God’s law and expect everyone else to do the same. They get very upset when someone does or says something that doesn’t fit their concept of right and wrong, such as the disciples breaking their rules by gathering a little snack. on the Sabbath (Matthew 12:2). The Pharisees became angry and cruel, even Jesus did not always have the opinion of the Pharisees. The Pharisees accused Jesus of being a demon because He could cast out demons. What’s the chance for a sinner like me to get their approval? I’m not even trying – I tend to avoid and run away from self-righteous people.

Refusing to listen

Egotistical people just listen to find a break in the conversation where they can interject their opinions. The Pharisees ignored what Jesus said and continued to push their agenda. They don’t care that Jesus is actually helping people. When Jesus disobeyed their religious rules, the Pharisees tried to destroy Him.

Arrogant and arrogant

An arrogant person is someone who is arrogant, arrogant, and likes to show off their holiness to others. The Pharisees showed great interest in praying in public, giving large amounts of money to the temple, and rigidly following the rules. They judge and are quick to correct anyone who doesn’t fit their rigid standards – even Jesus himself. Their arrogance blinds them to what they need to change. They hated Jesus in part because Jesus pointed out their sins and weaknesses.

Lack of empathy

When self-important people work on their own agenda, they don’t care about others. They want to feel right, rational, and in control. Claiming to be a type of narcissism, not the love of God or others.Read more: how to fix noisy fidget camera (Minecraft Pokemon Mod)*

An attitude of judgment and condemnation

People with rigid ideas about what they consider right and wrong can be judgmental and condemning of others. Since the Pharisees saw themselves as right, they severely judged anyone who stepped out of line. One of the first things they asked Jesus was why did he eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners. The next thing we see happening is the Pharisees trying to find something to accuse Jesus of and plotting to kill Him (Matthew 12:9-13). These actions show that self-righteous people can be dangerous when people don’t fit into their value system. They can become filled with anger and hatred, motivating them to do all sorts of terrible things.

My encounters with egotistical people

A few years ago, I went through a tough time after being laid off from my job. As I didn’t immediately land another job, it was interesting to see the reactions of some self-righteous people to my situation. If I worry, I don’t trust God enough. If my prayers seem unanswered, there is definitely some unrepentant sin in my life. I was asked to move out of my luxury apartment to somewhere cheaper (not as easy as they thought). I was required to go flip a burger, even though such a job paid me less than what I would get on unemployment insurance. Self-righteous people have come up with all sorts of solutions, none of which worked for me. These people don’t know what they’re talking about. One person tried to convince me that I needed to walk into every job agency in the city. For me, the methods that were popular many years ago are no longer effective in the internet age. In her mind, she was right, and anything I said that didn’t agree with her opinion made her angry. So I bit my tongue and let it go. She has an agenda that I must follow to be successful in my life. She won’t listen to me unless I match her point of view.*

God’s View of Self-Righteousness

Jesus told the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector with very different prayers (Luke 18:1-14). The Pharisees were so egotistical that they patted themselves on the back for all their good deeds. He was full of pride and thanked God that he didn’t look like the bad tax collector next to him. Tax collectors are hated for squeezing people’s money and lining their own pockets with the money they extort. However, this guy was so humble and too late to accept his wrongs with God that he beat his chest, not even daring to raise his eyes to heaven. justice. He wants us to acknowledge that He is the only Righteous One – our righteousness is like dirty rags (Is 64:6). The Pharisees did not. I keep that in mind when I am wounded by conceited people and thank God that He accepts me, a sinner, and hears my prayers.© 2013 Carola Finch
