How To Cut Sleeves Off A Dress
My sewing skills are sad.
Contents
Honestly, most of my sewing skills came from the housewife class in middle school when I sewed aprons. Also, I played around a bit, but not much. Sewing is scary! I used to scold my poor sewing machine whenever I tried to use it. Lately, I see a lot of Facebook posts from people who have changed their clothes. The results are lovely! I also want to change my clothes, but I’m afraid I’ll ruin a perfectly fine piece. This finally changed when I won a free dress. It’s cute, but the arms are incredibly tight. I decided to test my poor sewing skills. I took off the sleeve of my dress. Here’s how I did it: Read: how to cut sleeves from a dress
1) Remove the sleeves with a seam tearer.
The seam cutter is a useful little tool! They’re cheap enough that everyone should buy one! To remove sleeves from clothing, first turn the shirt inside out. Find the spot where the sleeve sticks to the garment. There will be thread at this seam, which connects the sleeve to the rest of the garment. Carefully slide the seam cutter underneath these threads and cut them off. Just be careful not to go too fast! If you are not careful, you will tear the fabric. I speak from experience! 2) Decide how you want to finish the rough edges.
After you remove the sleeves, your garment will be left with only a rough edge. However, it doesn’t look very good. More importantly, a rough edge will quickly begin to unravel. You must fix this! The easiest way to perfect a rough edge is to simply fold the edge of the fabric to form a seam and sew it back. For a better look, add a decorative piece. I had some old duct tape laying around (for years!), so I used it to finish off the edges of my dress.
3) Pin your seam.
After you fold under the seam, secure it with pins. This is your chance to see what the finished product will look like. If you don’t like what you see, take out the pins and start over. I have to do this. It’s annoying to take all the pins out, but you’re better off fixing the problem than sewing it into your clothes. Point your pins in the same direction to each other to reduce the chance of self-stabbing. (I still managed to stab myself a few times, though!) To make it easier on my fingers, I like to use pins that are round and large. I’m also a fan of the magnetic pin cushion. They make me feel so cool!
4) Sew the seams.
If you have sewing skills, sew the seams on the sewing machine. It is faster and more reliable than sewing by hand. However, I didn’t feel like getting into a screaming match with my machine, so I opted for the slower method. Choose only suitable for your clothes. Remove the pins as you sew, especially if you are using the machine. You can seriously damage the sewing machine by sewing through pins, so don’t risk it! If something serious happens, you can always tear off the wrong stitches with your seam cutter and start over. Read more: How to find nudity on tiktok
5) Iron the seams.
Ironing the seams will give your outfit a finished look. However, read the label first and make sure the fabric can be ironed. You don’t want to ruin all your hard work by burning it up! Honestly, I was lazy and skipped this step. If it looks ok, leave it alone!
6) Wear your new outfit!
Finally, enjoy the benefits of all your sewing skills and show off your new outfit! Congratulations! What sewing project is on your to-do list? Read more: How to grow cantaloupe in minecraft
