What is Porterhouse Steak?
Contents
A porterhouse-style steak is a small portion of beef consisting of two separate muscle tissues that are divided into a portion of lean bone. The larger side of the porterhouse steak is a New York strip steak and the smaller side is the sirloin. Most porterhouse steaks are very thick (minimum 1.5 inches), weigh about 24 oz whole, and can be simply fed to a few individuals.
Porterhouse Steak vs. T-Bone
Each porterhouse and T-bone is reduced from a quick loin, each consisting of two identical pieces of meat (New York strip and loin), so it begs the question… What’s the difference between porterhouse and T- What is bone? The biggest difference between these two cuts is that it boils right down to the size of the tenderloin. The United States Department of Agriculture has specific notes regarding the size of the tenderloin that separates the T-bone from the porter. . This measurement is taken from the bone to the widest part of the loin. The T-bone comes from the inlet of the tenderloin, where the loin rests, so the tenderloin above the T-bone is sometimes very small. Porterhouse steaks are reduced from the back of the tenderloin, where the tenderloin is thickest. On the Porterhouse, you’ll find a sizable portion of filet mignon. What is Reverse Searing?
For a thick, porterhouse-like steak, my most common grilling technique is using a method known as reverse grilling. This process requires grilling the steak at a temperature that drops above the skewers warmth, and the ends wilt from excessive warmth. Reverse slicing works especially nicely with thick cuts because it allows the steak’s temperature to rise slowly. As a result, your steak can be cooked to the right edge as an alternative to a steak that’s burnt to the skin and undercooked in the middle.

How Long To Bake Porterhouse Steak
Plan your entire reverse cooking process, taking about an hour and a half for an uncommon medium-sized steak. An hour with skewers of warmth, fifteen minutes for a grueling dish, and fifteen minutes of steak rest. These are huge steaks and you certainly don’t want to rush through and find yourself overcooked or undercooked steaks. An uncommon steak will require much less baking time and a beautifully prepared steak will take a little longer. I always recommend using a top quality meat thermometer in the case of steaks. With an instant-learning thermometer, you don’t have to guess the internal temperature of a thick steak.
