Take off your shirt and tie it in the back so it can be worn comfortably and over your head, unfasten the top and measure the length of the tie + a little seam. If your shirt has a back tie like mine, go ahead and cut one out and rough the hem. (If your shirt doesn’t have a back tie, skip these steps.)
Using your measurements, cut the remaining tie to your desired length + a little seam to allow then rough hem. Pin to the open side of the top and sew in place.
Take your board fabric, place it under the open area and pin it. I doubled my fabric because I wanted it to be a little less thin.
Quick tip: For easier pinning on delicate fabrics, place a cutting board or other stiff item you have around the house between the front and back of the shirt. I use the old 80s clipboard!

Turn the shirt inside out and trim off the excess fabric, this doesn’t have to be a perfect cut as it won’t be visible from the outside of the shirt.

I wasn’t happy with the stitching on the bottom so I took a vintage lace flower from my shop and stitched it through the fine seam – a very simple fix that makes the top even more unique!
