Do you have an altar in your house? A place you always go to spend time with God? A place where the atmosphere carries the glory of God so all you have to do is sit there and feel His presence?

Setting up an altar in my home is one of the best things I’ve ever done to help myself increase my intimacy with God.

My altar happened to be in an empty bedroom. I call it my office. Genesis 28:16-17 describes one such case in which a wanderer named Jacob happened to stop at a place that was. especially for God. He had a wonderful dream and actually saw angels ascending and descending between Heaven and Earth in that place. Then he saw the Lord himself, and the Lord spoke to him about his future. When he awoke, Jacob said:Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely God is in this place, and I don’t know it.” And he got scared and said, “What a great place this is! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate to heaven! “I believe there is a portal to Heaven on my altar. It might be a small thing, but you won’t believe how pregnant the atmosphere is there. It is imbued with the glory of God. And whenever I sit down there, even when I’m having the worst day, I can feel God’s presence. The Holy Ghost served me there, and His presence and work were powerfully manifested.

2. Because having a dedicated altar in a quiet place will nourish your spirit’s need for separation and solitude.

Everyone needs time alone with God. It doesn’t matter if you’re an introvert or an extrovert. If you are alive and breathing, you need time alone with God! Each of us is a God-shaped hole, and only God can fill our deepest needs. We cannot satisfy our deepest needs with pleasure, TV, emotions, physical pleasure, relationships, or anything else. Only God can please. Having an altar in your home gives you a dedicated place to separate from the chaos of life and face God.

3. Because having an altar in your home helps you develop the daily discipline of spending time with God.

Have a place that’s yours; that you love; that’s beautiful to you; it’s so cozy and private… makes you want to spend time there! And when you get into the habit of spending time in that place and knowing that that place is where you spend time with God, it helps you spend more time with God. ! Especially if you are a new believer who needs to make an altar in your home. Give yourself every advantage as you learn to know God. Train your body and mind to seek Him in your special place.

Ready to do this, but don’t know where to start? Here’s how to make an altar at home:

1. Choose a quiet place away from everything else.

Make it a place where you don’t have to stare at the laundry or the dishes that need washing. Make it a place where you can hide from your kids, spouse, phone, computer, or anything else that gets your attention.

2. Clean it.

Believe it or not, the Holy Spirit rests on order, not chaos. You will feel a clear difference if you clean your place. Even if you have to start with 2 feet x 3 meters on the floor. If that’s all you can clean, do it anyway. Make your place clean and orderly, no matter how small it is.

3. Put your Bible study materials on the altar, so you can always find them.

This way, I rarely have to search for anything. Simple and easy, I also keep some blankets there, simply because my husband likes how our house is too cold for my liking at night, so when I wake up I have to wrap it up. ???? Oh yeah… keep some Kleenex and a trash can nearby too.

4. Make it beautiful.

Your spirit and soul yearn for beauty. God made you that way. When the beauty of the special feeds you, you will be able to connect more with God – because beauty comes from Him. When I lived in another house, my altar used to be in a simple old storage room. It works, but it’s definitely not pretty. Even after my husband and I moved into our current house, at first my particular abode was not nice at all. It was just a room with four walls and one window, however, when I added a lovely blanket, a colorful garment and wall art, I really started to enjoy the time. spend more time with God. So no matter where your altar is, start adding beauty where you can.

Maybe you don’t have an entire room of your own to dedicate to an altar. That’s OK. Maybe your special place is in a dry tub, locking yourself in the bathroom. That’s OK. Grab some candles and a pretty basket and place them next to the tub. Hang a pretty picture next to the tub. Make it as beautiful as possible. You will be glad you did.
