Enough Planning – Let’s Start Building a Niche Shampoo!

This is where you will really determine where to put your in-wall shampoo shelf. Here is where you are:

You have started to tile

Determine exactly where to cut

How to drill holes in the wall will depend on the type of tile you have installed. Use the same glue to stick around the nooks and crannies on the wall. You are sealing the gap between the niche and the cement board. Do not apply glue to the wall surface, cover the seam with 2 inch mesh tape and secure it. You are ready to stack.

Install Tiles in your Ceiling Shower Shelves

Continue with the wall tiling. You may need to create a splint or two to support the brick through the top of the niche. If the tile sticks through the opening of the niche, this is fine. Go back and fill the thinset to flatten and let dry. It is better for the brick bar to go through the nook and cranny than to go up short.

Here’s the usual order of how I stack a built-in shampoo shelf:

Paving the door sill (bottom) first. Let it dry. After it dries, you should be able to stack the tiles on the sill without moving.
