How To Build A Lat Pulldown Machine

This is a simple and concise DIY tutorial on how to convert your docked electrical stand into a turning tower using Spud Inc Econo Pulleys and some basic rack components. This switch is simple to set up, but it does give you access to high-latency cable and pull-down lines; just to name a couple. This DIY setup is much cheaper than owning an actual cable machine or laptop tower, and it requires no commitment to floor space when not in use. Many of you can even set this up without spending a dime. You do not! Your program may not require latitudinal or cable pulldowns, and unless you’re a bodybuilder, it’s likely none of them will. I just happened to miss the laptop from my commercial gym days and realized I’m not the only one doing so. effort to perform the pull-up or if you still have excess weight that makes it difficult to perform the pull-up. Fully pull-down lats can help develop traction and chin strength. The Spud Inc Pulley system alone reintroduced access to a lot of that pulling motion. Unfortunately, without the laptop’s leg brace (below), what we can pull down with any machine in good form is limited. As the weight being pulled starts to exceed 50-75% of our body weight, it becomes increasingly difficult to keep your butt glued to the chair. This simple rack switch solves that problem. So no, you probably don’t need a latop, but if you enjoy all the different pulls and can bundle this conversion together without spending a lot of money (or even no money), then why not? That being said, if you don’t even own the right kind of stand to start this conversion with, I certainly wouldn’t try to make it work.

What makes these Rogue parts work so well is the consistent 5/8-inch diameter holes and consistent 2″ spacing between these holes across all Rogue components. The Infinity and Monster Lite tracking arms both have a 2-inch pitch on the side of the arm, and the 43-inch Infinity members have mounting holes exactly 6 inches apart (see image below.) I don’t doubt. No doubt parts from other manufacturers could be used for this project but you’ll have to confirm that for yourself. Here are the parts:

  • Power stand, half stand, or stand compatible with Infinity or compatible with Monster Lite; mooring
  • Rogue Infinity or Monster Lite safety tracking arm
  • Spare parts 43 infinity crossbar / stabilizer / pull up bar †
  • Flat utility bench
  • Any combination of (4) total range latch and/or detent/hitch latch †
  • Spud Inc Econo Lat / Tricep . Pulley
  • Optional cable attachment (spud system only comes with one)

† The 43-inch R4 cross member (same part used as a horizontal rack stabilizer) and cam pins are not offered on the Rogue website for sale individually, but they can be ordered by phone. You’ve owned at least 2 locking pins since getting the positioning arms, and you probably already own a set of 4 magnetic tape pins when you bought the stand; so you don’t need to buy any of these. If for some reason you do, I might look at the 5/8″ pins on Amazon. Just make sure they are long enough to go through all the components. As you can see, the beauty of this setup; much more affordable than the official lag pullers; is that it assembles and disassembles in seconds, it’s fully adjustable to any height, and it doesn’t require you to commit any floor space when it’s not in use.

There are a few things that I have learned using my lathe conversion. For starters, benches equipped with Thompson Fat Pads aren’t ideal for this conversion. They’re too tall even for tall people (I’m 6’3″ and I can’t get it to work). You can tie some form of padding around it if you find it uncomfortable pressing your bare feet against it. It’s really not annoying if you set it up correctly (levels), but I can see how padding would be a nice touch. Read more: how to fold a bracelet with apple watch it in one of the pool foam noodles. My Attachment (in case you’re wondering)

Most of the attachments that I use regularly are from American Barbell. AB offers both steel and aluminum, but I choose aluminum attachments because they are lighter, made in the USA, and comfortable in the hand. Aluminum fittings are a bit more expensive than the classic steel ones they offer but not by much, and considering these are parts that I will never have to buy again, I’m fine with an expensive variant. and a little more beautiful. Amazon has a ton of attachments that you can buy cheaply – I own a few of them too. Obviously they don’t compare with attachment AB, but they get the job done equally. I actually removed all of my non-AB attachments except for an Amazon tricep rope and the included nylon attachment from Spud Inc Pulley (which is a very versatile attachment, by the way. and I love it). I’m no ‘expert’ on cable attachments, so I’m not going to pretend and tell you where to buy your attachments. Nor am I suggesting that you have to spend a ton of money on high-end accessories to get the power. Chances are you’ll be familiar with some very specific attachment types and brands from your global gym days, and you’ll want to use them – by all means, do it. tricep push-down attachments or multi-handle cable attachments from Rogue, I’d love to get some feedback on them. It’s not the fanciest thing, but it gets the job done. I have a return day every four sessions and I set this up all the time. None of the cable-based pull-ups is the main workout of the day, but I did a pretty good job of burning my back in my 2nd and 3rd sets. Again, though, if you don’t own the right rack or any of its components, you can certainly still row with a barbell. Do not try to put this together if it will cost you a small fortune.
