For more than 20 years, we have offered our customers the choice of S-hook or split ring with hundreds of thousands of cards. The S-hook is a simple, effective way to attach tags to a collar, but requires pliers to secure the tag. About 6 years ago we received a letter in the mail describing a terrible accident. Somehow, a dog wearing one of our tags, got the S-hook hooked to its eyelids. We were relieved to hear that the dog recovered without lasting injury. The owner just wanted us to know about the potential danger posed by the S-hook.
It was almost impossible for us to imagine how this accident could have happened. In fact, we’ve never heard of any S-hook-related injuries. We feel this must be a once-in-a-lifetime weird accident.And then it happened again!We were stunned. Further investigation revealed that in both cases the S-hook was tightened enough to keep the card from falling off – but not from the clamp closing completely. That small opening allows the S-hook to still act as a hook and grab the dogs’ eyelids. Fortunately, this second dog also made a full recovery. There is simply no way for us to guarantee that every S-hook will be completely closed so this never happens again. On that day, we decided to remove the S-hook as an option. There are millions of pets out there with S-hook attachments. If your pet is one of them, please make sure both sides of the S hook are fully closed. In fact, you should consider changing your attachment to a detached ring.

All of our cards are shipped with split ring attachments. Small split ring, small key ring.
