The ledger board, or header, is a horizontal piece of wood that is attached to the wall to support the ends of the deck braces. Ledgers can be attached using one of three methods.

Mark anchor positions on your ledger and drill through the board with a ” bit
Position the ledger against the wall and mark the anchor locations through the hole in the wall.
Use a hammer drill to drill through the brick veneer with a ½ inch drill bit until you reach the back wood frame. Do not drill into wood.
Reposition the ledger board and insert a ½” delay pin, 10″ long, into each hole and push them in slightly with a hammer.
Use a socket wrench or impact driver to drive the bolts into the frame until the ledger is firmly attached to the wall.
