Non-factory mods are installed the same way on the server as on your computer; just use the File Manager on the left side of your NodePanel to access the server’s mods folder. The easiest way to get Steam Workshop mods is described below and starts with registering the mods in the Steam Workshop and allowing Steam to download them automatically to the client on your local computer.

Sign up for Mods

Navigate to the workshop for Starbound on Steam, find the mods that interest you, and click on them to open their workshop page. Click the green “+ Sign Up” button. Very simple! For a large number of mods, you may have to wait a little while for Steam to finish downloading them all.

Prepare Mods to upload to the server

To find where Steam stores the mods it just downloaded, do the following:

  • Right click on “Starbound” in your game library and the menu shown below will pop up. Click “properties” at the bottom.

The Starbound Attribute in the Steam LibraryOn the next pop-up, click the “Local Files” tab at the top, then click “Browse Local Files.”Browse Local Files for Starbound in SteamYou should see this view of your local computer game files, as shown below. To get to where Steam hides mods, click the arrow in the upper left to move up one level circled in the screenshot. In the screenshot below, you will also see a “mods” folder. That’s NOT where Steam stores the workshop mods it automatically downloads. The “mods” folder is where you manually add your own mods, and after a fresh install, it’s usually empty.Local files for StarboundRead more: How to train a bengal cat On the next level you will see a list of all installed Steam games and you will click on that arrow again to go to another level. Then you will see this…Workshop directory for StarboundThe “Workshop” folder is where Steam stores all the content it downloads for all games. Click on the folder to open it.

  • Inside “Contents” are folders with numbers. It’s the primary ID number of Steam games.

Starbound’s ID number is 211820, so click that folder. Inside there, you’ll see a folder for every mod you’ve subscribed to. The names of the folders are the Steam Workshop IDs for that mod. Inside each folder is a file named topqa.info.Workshop directory for all the Steam games youStarbound mods location for Steam on WindowsLeave the mods in those numbered folders. Upload Mod Folders to the Server

We strongly recommend using a program to pack and compress folders, such as one in .zip or .rar format. This will make a single file usually smaller than all the separate folders (and smaller means faster uploads).Create a Zip file of mods for the Starbound serverThen upload that zip file to the server, into the /mods folder. You can use drag and drop in a file manager or an actual FTP program to move files. Finally, extract the file. We have support for extracting files directly in the file manager view. Simply select a single zip file and an “Extract” button will appear along the top of the file manager window. Use NodePanel to rename files

The final step before the server can actually use the mods, is that the file inside each numbered directory needs to be moved out of that directory and directly into the /mods directory. The server will don’t load any files inside other folders inside / mods. The problem with that is, they are all named exactly the same: topqa.info.In Nodecraft File Manager this will make them overwrite each other when you start moving them (move 20 files with the same name, and when you’re done, only 1 file is there. One file has been overwritten 19 times). So they all need to be renamed to something unique. The usual method is to rename them to the workshop ID number (the number from which the mod folders are named). so many of mods, this will take some time and it’s quite tedious. So at Nodecraft we have a magic button that does it all for you. Seriously, magic button.See the mods section of the Nodecraft Starbound server, which shows how to automatically rename modsAfter uploading the mod folders, go to the “Mods (WIP)” tab of the control panel and click the blue button labeled “Steam Workshop Fix”. This will:

  • get the topqa.info file out of any numbered mod folders.
  • automatically rename it to the workshop ID number.
  • then move them directly to the /mods folder.
  • When it’s finished, the numbered mod folders that have been uploaded will be empty and they can be deleted later if you want.

So click the button. Boom, done. It’s time to play. This only works if you leave the mod folders exactly as they are, inside the numbered mod folders. The topqa.info files are renamed after using the Steam Workshop Fix button in the NodePanel to rename themIf you don’t have a magic node that does this for you (i.e. you’re trying to set up your own server at home), then all topqa.info files need to be renamed and moved manually. labour. We strongly recommend using the Conference ID number so you can see what it is later.

Restart the server to load the mods

Please restart the server and it will automatically load every mod in the /mods folder. If there are any issues with the mod loading at startup, the “Console” section of the server will usually contain any error messages related to that issue. Read more: How to draw Tony Stark | Top Q&A
